R2 Dimensions + More Information -- Motortrend: Learning All About the R3 and R3X With Rivian’s Design Chief

If you include ID4 and Tesla Model Y then I suppose the Hyundai Ionia 5 and Kia EV6 qualify as well. Genesis GV60 a bit less long, electrified GV70 a bit larger. but I suspect the crossovers should be crossed out entirely, so there’s not much competition already sold right now - the only Jeep...

Rivian R3 wins Design of the Year in 2024 Top Gear Awards

The normal Ladas are garbage. The Niva, from all I've heard, is actually a very good offroader. And the big tires esp of the R3X does evoke it somewhat. Also, I'm not the only one...

Heads up display in Rivians future?

Someone else already noted - but this should not be the case. We have two cars with HUDs; the wife's Mini uses an old-school additional display that shows the HUD (and retracts down when HUD is disabled / when the car is turned off). My Kia EV6 projects the image onto the windshield - there's a...

Rivian R3 wins Design of the Year in 2024 Top Gear Awards

The R3 always reminds me of Lada Niva https://www.carscoops.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Lada-Niva-Bronto-2.jpg

    R3 / R3X Dimensions: ~161.4 in length / ~59.5 in height ?

Which dimensions are you referring to - 161" or 170"? Pretty sure the thread title is now incorrect

    R3X launches after R2, and before R3

Indeed, RJ talked about them in the same terms as R1T compared to R1S

2800 mile road trip / towing 5k lbs boat / R1S vs Porsche

Oh of course. To be clear I am waiting for R3, which being smaller than EV6 should achieve at least similar efficiencies assuming the drivetrain and batteries are comparable (smaller car, bigger or equivalent wheels, higher ground clearance) With the EV6 I get my best mileage in city driving...

2800 mile road trip / towing 5k lbs boat / R1S vs Porsche

3.4 mi/kWh, that's very close to what I get in my EV6 driving not that much above the speed limit! Efficiency is one thing I worry about as a prospective owner, so thanks for this great post. I'm now convinced the smaller Rivians will be just fine, higher clearance and bigger wheels and all.

    EV Jeeps are coming

The Wagoneer perhaps? Or the Compass?

    EV Jeeps are coming

I'm still more interested in the R3/R3X though, but it's nice to have more off road capable options. https://electrek.co/2024/08/06/jeep-unveil-new-electric-compass-soon/ What's with manufacturers ditching round headlights when they make EVs though? Eg Porsche and now Jeep (and Mini ditched it...

    SoCal, come check out the R2 and R3X @ Pasadena Space 8/8 - 8/11

Interesting, no standard R3 this time?

    Lucid Gravity vs R1S

Sadly it also helps manufacturers hit EPA targets because non-cars are held to a laxer standard. Plus for EVs the maximum qualifying price is higher. My EV6 is basically a wagon but Kia managed to reclassify it as a SUV (the 2022 model that I have is shown on fuel economy.gov as a station wagon!)

    R3X launches after R2, and before R3

This might be interesting: in the Nilay Patel Decoder interview, around 36 mins in when Nilay asked RJ about the decision to postpone Georgia, he mentioned doing R2 / R3 in Normal. RJ didn't rebut it, and alternate between saying R2 and at least once saying R2/R3 (plus that Georgia will be the...

RJ Scaringe Interview on the Rivian R2, R3, R3X & Beyond! | by The InEVitable

Oh this is news. Thank you! Been trying to find this info for a while

    R3X launches after R2, and before R3

Ah, sorry, misread that. I don't think R2 will start production in Georgia - there are production number breakdowns for how the Normal plant can split between R1, RDV and R2 - but yeah I don't think they will really add a fourth type there From RJ himself in the interview

    R3X launches after R2, and before R3

Hmm... you reckon the R3X will be built in Normal, and not waiting for the Georgia plant? That could be interesting If it has normal-ish tires I'll definitely try and get a test drive and depending on how much I can let my EV6 go for, switch early (unlikely apart from the test drive!)

    R3X launches after R2, and before R3

https://www.theverge.com/24201749/rivian-ceo-rj-scaringe-ev-electric-truck-r1-tesla-model-y-competition-decoder-interview Reading the full transcript at the Verge, it does sound like it won't take that long after R2 is out to launch R3X and then R3 - they just want to make sure production and...

Really prefer low regen, but would like option for brake-only regen and saving as default profile

Quite happy with the blended brakes on my Kia EV6 too, and I haven't heard Hyundai and Genesis drivers complain either.

Update 2024.23 Details (For Gen 2 Rivian)

FWIW this is how it works on the Kia EV6 - proximity unlock can be turned on and off - proximity lock was not available prior to model year 2025. Could be available soon, we'll see when the cars arrive - approaching the driver door only unlocks it, the front passenger door unlocks all doors -...

The Globe and Mail on buying Rivian stock

Oof, it 404s for me too now! I am pretty sure it's this one - I'll do an archive link too in case it happens again https://www.theglobeandmail.com/investing/markets/stocks/RIVN/pressreleases/27227945/is-rivian-stock-a-buy-after-its-billion-dollar-cash-injection/
