Yesterday was a tough day - went to charge the R1 and got the dreaded UNPLUG and TRY AGAIN error. Tried again, tried other chargers all to no avail. Called Rivian and they were zero help ... drove to a 50 KW charger and it worked ... connected with Rivian to ask if this means the onboard charger...
We have a 70 pound Boxer and a Frenchie. They both sit on the rear seat that is covered with an Orvis back seat protector. It has mesh on the front side which allows the AC vents to blow through into the back seat.
We have done trips like this in the past - mostly in our Ford Raptor with a 36 gal / 144 l tank. Even with the dogs the stops were much shorter - 10 minutes. In addition, I did stop and charge for safety more than I "had to" ... I wasn't comfortable arriving with 10% battery in some remote...

If you have an adapter, plug and charge works perfectly. I setup a Tesla account to save 25% - in this case you need the Tesla app, and you start the Supercharger from the app before you plug in your Rivian. It works flawlessly.
I just stopped at my first Tesla Supercharger and I’m in awe. 217kw … plug and charge, absolutely seamless. I’m driving across the country next month and this will be a game changer.
