Learned more Rivian Gen 2 tech updates / differences to Gen 1

Great video. Can someone explain a couple things on the screen shots below from the 12v portion of the video. what is meant by “ front facia must be installed”? What is EZCM? What is “North power distribution unit”?

    TPMS pretty worthless

I recently got a Gen2 after trading in a Gen1. The Gen2 pressure updating does seem to take a lot longer after a wake up.

Wassym: Rivian isn't prioritizing autonomous driving (Business Insider article)

Drop full self driving and make the vehicle less expensive. Sign me up. No interest at all in FSD.

Charge percentage does not match Energy (kWh) delivered

I have observed this behavior too. But if I charge to 100% and track the power consumed and then charge back up to 100% the numbers work out. I think it might be a state of charge calibration thing. See my post here on battery degradation testing for an example...

Humid air causing fogging on all glass surfaces?

Are you recirculating inside air or bringing in outside air? That setting can change the behavior a lot.

    Conserve Misconception

I think, and I’m only guessing, but it might be because at lower temperatures some energy from the motors goes into keeping the battery warm. If in conserve mode, the two motors have to work harder to provide that energy negating the benefit of shutting off the other two.

    Conserve Misconception

I agree with the OP. Conserve is fine for tire wear. And, as also noted, conserve only real gets better efficiency at warmer temps based on my data collection from the same 165 mile route driven many times.

Unexpected Conserve vs All Purpose Efficiency Behavior

@ksurfier goes deep into the archives this Holloween eve. This observation has held up over time. With the Quad motor Rivian the conserve mode really only results in improved efficiency in warmer weather. I now have a dual motor R1T and so far that efficiency is very similar to the Quad motor...

Traded in Gen1 Quad R1T for Gen2 Dual Max Pack R1T -- Reasons, Review, Photos

I miss the idea of them. But the reality is I never used rock crawl or sand mode. Rally you can get by turning stability off. The All Purpose steering mapping on gen2 feels about like sport did on gen 1.

Traded in Gen1 Quad R1T for Gen2 Dual Max Pack R1T -- Reasons, Review, Photos

Here is a bit more detail on my Gen 2 efficiency/range observations so far vs my Gen 1 and out Volvo XC40 recharge. This data is over the same route we take often. 165 miles mix of freeway and rural roads. Looks like the Gen2 efficiency is very close to the Gen 1 but the range is obviously...

Traded in Gen1 Quad R1T for Gen2 Dual Max Pack R1T -- Reasons, Review, Photos

It’s not quite lifetime but over the last 47,000 miles this was the trip meter. 2.08.

Traded in Gen1 Quad R1T for Gen2 Dual Max Pack R1T -- Reasons, Review, Photos

Made a drive at 45 deg. The efficiency of the Gen2 was about the same as the Gen1 at that temp. I will continue to monitor and report.

Traded in Gen1 Quad R1T for Gen2 Dual Max Pack R1T -- Reasons, Review, Photos

Regarding the steering; There is only All Purpose mode on the Gen 2 and no Sport Mode. The steering response of the All Purpose Gen 2 is like a better implementation of the Gen 1 Sport Mode. Tight and silky with more feedback on corners. The ride/Suspension feels better. Maybe less...

Traded in Gen1 Quad R1T for Gen2 Dual Max Pack R1T -- Reasons, Review, Photos

After putting 55,000 trouble free and wonderful miles on my R1T Quad Motor I took the recent Rivian trade-in incentive to replace it with a Dual Motor Max Pack R1T. Why, you might ask given the deep discount the early reservation holders got? A few reasons; * I have never wished for more...
