Video: R1T Towing 11k lbs up high grades at 118º F -- Hot Weather Towing | Progress Report by Rivian

Really? You think their battery voltage will be more than 400 (but not the 800 - 900V required for the 300 kW charging they have stated as the max)?

Video: R1T Towing 11k lbs up high grades at 118º F -- Hot Weather Towing | Progress Report by Rivian

Also posted in the "Towing" thread, but: Anyone else catch the "Our target is to charge up to at least 440 for tomorrows testing" at ~2:20? I think the "400+" will have more + than some have been anticipating

EA decides to shut down chargers along nearly 500 miles of I-95 over long holiday weekend to perform upgrades

InsideEVs article today says Tesla averages $.28/kWh, and this is supported by other sources. If you add in the additional fee that Tesla would likely charge other brands (if they are even willing to do so given they have overcrowding issues in some areas), it wouldn't be any cheaper. And it...

2023 Ford F-150 EV Aiming for Big Power, Small Maintenance Costs

The F-150 is going to be a different market target than Rivian. Those here looking for a work type truck (long bed, etc) instead of an adventure vehicle may be better served by the Ford. It could also come in at a lower price point for the basic version (2 motors vs 4, less HP, slower charging...

Anyone considering the Nikola Badger alternative?

And if he does find that 4¢/kwh electricity, his competition is BEVs as well as diesel. Charging /discharging batteries is far more efficient than any current fuel cell Technology. Nikola trumpeted a major breakthrough in battery tech (and fuel cells), but then apparently went with GM tech for...

EA decides to shut down chargers along nearly 500 miles of I-95 over long holiday weekend to perform upgrades

In the past, EA pricing tier was based on the highest power the car could accept. At the beginning of the charge session, the vehicle reports it's capabilities and the price tier is established at that point regardless of the actual charge session power (even before taper). This ticked off...

Anyone considering the Nikola Badger alternative?

Current hydrogen production is "in the black" at an average of $13.99/kg (with subsidies). This is equivalent to $5.60/gal for gas. More efficiency equals a lower cost that could possibly then be competitive with electricity and gas as a vehicle fuel. Efficiency does matter.

Anyone considering the Nikola Badger alternative?

100 years ago when the gas vs electric question for vehicles was first experienced, the deciding factor was the expansion and ready availability of gas filling stations. The same is likely to hold true in the electricity vs hydrogen question. Electricity is readily available most places -...

Anyone considering the Nikola Badger alternative?

He did not personally have the money and said it was coming from the Saudis (before he said he was also exploring other sources to raise the money for taking it private) The fine was $20 million to him, and $20 million to Tesla itself (and therefore all shareholders). There are rules and...

Anyone considering the Nikola Badger alternative?

They got him because he did not have the money (or at least could/would not provide them the info). He had entered into preliminary negotiations with the Saudi Arabia sovereign fund, but no deal or terms were agreed upon. It took him less than two days after the SEC filed the complaint to agree...

    New trailer for EV camping

Heavier than the tow rating for the R1S and R1T, even for the base unit with nothing in it. They run from 16,000 to 18,000 lbs GVWR

Sometimes yes, sometimes no, sometimes it reduces the payment in other ways besides a straight up Capital Cost Reduction. BMW did not pass on the entire $7,500 in the early leases for the i3 - IIRC it was ~$4,500 of it. Chevy's early leases on the Bolt applied about ~$3,500 as a CCR, with...

Looking at a hard shell Roof Top Tent (RTT). The big disadvantage is indeed the ladder, but being able to have a decent bed/mattress and being able to keep the bedding in place when closing the tent is attractive. As is not having roots/rocks/uneven ground under your spine or hips. Won't miss...

    Reservations About My Reservation

I'm not 20 something. Not even 30, 40 or 50 something. My wife and I have camped for decades on our motorcycles, but we are starting to curtail longer trips. We seem to be able to find more reasons not to travel as far - too much freeway/hot weather/cold weather/wet weather/fire smoke/etc. Don't...

Video: Preproduction R1T Begin Rolling Off The Line!

Finished pack energy densities are running 150 to 170 Wh/kg for Tesla, Rivian has indicated they will be a bit better. If they could get 180 Wh/kg, that would be ~550 additional lbs for the 180 over the 135 kWh versions. At 150 Wh/kg it would add ~660 lbs.
