New Battery Pack Design (not Standard Pack) & Architecture Coming in 2024 confirms Rivian CFO

This is my bet as well. Makes way too much sense. I'm fairly confident they let slip in 2021 that they were working on a heat pump but it wasn't ready yet. Then they later denied it. The 800v architecture is an absolute no brainier. Hopefully they can do this without increasing prices...

CyberTruck is more than Stainless Steel...Tesla excels at Engineering in so many ways.

All fair points. I think the bottom line for me as a prospective owner is that Rivian is going to try to get there at some point. When they will get there, is anyone's guess. Mine is that it will be next year but others believe it will be with R2. I think both are possible but we will have to...

The chargers are limited, not the vehicle. That's the point we were discussing above.

No, their head engineer confirmed in the Top Gear video it will be 350kW.

CyberTruck is more than Stainless Steel...Tesla excels at Engineering in so many ways.

I agree to some extent. But I have two counterpoints. On the routes I currently drive, I have access to 350kW chargers at each stop already. This is in the South and Midwest, not on the coasts. I believe Tesla will ramp rapidly and with the investments from the government, I expect DC fast...

CyberTruck is more than Stainless Steel...Tesla excels at Engineering in so many ways.

I don't know about you, but I'd love to see Rivian do the same. I think they are. Rivian already advertises 300kW+ RAN speeds "in the future" on their website. Electrify America offers this amount of power and Tesla will soon, which Rivian will have access to. Of all the things Rivian got...

CyberTruck is more than Stainless Steel...Tesla excels at Engineering in so many ways.

@SANZC02 The Cybertruck's 800V system will save you roughly half of the time (or 20-30 minutes) when charging from a low SoC to 85%. That's a big deal. It also means much lighter components. All around a far superior technology.

Crap Rivian just lost fastest truck title (to Cybertruck)

Agreed, but I'd much rather see them race each other to the most range and efficiency. That's what's going to help get ice off of the road.

No product can have everything and be under six figures. With that being said, if I got to choose the only features I'd really want Rivian to adopt are the heat pump, 800v/350kW charging, and the stronger glass. Four wheel steering and steer by wire are great, but the R1T already handles...

    R2 spied on the road?

Disagree. While "exactly alike" was an exaggeration, "nothing alike" is equally an overstatement. They certainly look like vehicles from the same family, except one is smaller and has less features. Maybe you feel different, that's cool. Still my prediction on roughly what we will get with R2.

    R2 spied on the road?

Unrelated to the video, but what if the R2 looks almost exactly like the R1S but shrunk down 30%? Think bronco vs bronco sport.

Cybertruck can power your home ?

V2G is a useful feature. Elon was publicly against it for a long time but I think Tesla's team talked him into it. Side note, it does feel like they went and looked at Rivian and the F-150L and tried to take some features from both. All in all, it wouldn't hurt to have a backup power generator...

Official Cybertruck Pricing - Starts at $60K+

I know no one truly knows at this point, but curious if this would make the Cybertruck bed about the same size as Rivian's? If so, not the end of the world I guess. But Rivian does use the gooseneck hinges to help you out when the bed is open. It's actually pretty crazy how many details Elon...

Drag Coefficient Estimates: R1T versus Cybertruck. And 265 mile range?

Sorry, I worded it weirdly. I was referring to the 800v architecture and potentially 350kW charging.

Drag Coefficient Estimates: R1T versus Cybertruck. And 265 mile range?

No, but it will be capable of 350kW as soon as Tesla updates the chargers to output that. It has a massive battery pack (which needs super fast charging) and one feature I really wish Rivian would implement themselves. I get everyone's point and the reaction overall seems to be very negative...

Drag Coefficient Estimates: R1T versus Cybertruck. And 265 mile range?

The dual motor is very comparable to Rivian, except it has a full bed and the other technology features. It's also the same price. I'm not a customer, but I would say it's pleasantly surprising the dual motor was much closer to everything, except for the big price increase, of course.

Drag Coefficient Estimates: R1T versus Cybertruck. And 265 mile range?

Here you go. Cybertruck website has been updated. Up to 340 miles of range, prices are much better than expected tbh. Seems far more compelling than I expected. No 500 miles, of course. Website mentions "range extender" for up to an additional ~150 miles of range but can't find any info on...

Drag Coefficient Estimates: R1T versus Cybertruck. And 265 mile range?

Not going to lie. This thing has some amazing capabilities. Four wheel steering would be nice, along with steer by wire, 800v architecture, etc. But does the automatic tonneau cover work? On the flipside, they are holding off on that price as long as possible it seems.
