Black Sand AT Wheels Logo/ Tag Color Changed?

It looks like according to the Rivian configurator that the Black Sand AT wheels now have a yellow Rivian badge instead of the more orange color they originally had.

Anyone get a delivery of an AT wheel model lately can confirm? Originally I was going to get the AT but truly I will not be getting them if they no longer color match the brake calipers. Very dumb odd choice for them to go from a color matched logo to not. Especially with not only the brake caliper but also the side marker being right there next to it.

I’m willing to bet it’s always been yellow and you thought it was orange because of whatever screen you saw the image on made it look that way—because of its inappropriate color calibration. Yellow is and has always been the brand’s accent color. Orange is reserved for the more extreme X design concepts (i.e. R3X) and then RAD once the performance division was announced. Unless their grand plans change, unlikely you will ever find orange on models that are produced in large numbers. And yellow being a brand color, you would never see another color used to accent the compass logo.

That’s just the difference in CG rendering (lighting) and image retouching/color correction… or lack of it. Light sources and direction of light is clear different. Image at top, the calipers are more lit than the bottom. And, thus, color more vibrant.

I don't see how these computer generated renderings are evidence that the center caps are actually different colors. Look at the images as a whole--I could make the same argument that the Black Sand wheels are a "different" shade now.

I'm referring to the logo near the edge of the wheel. In the thread I linked there is a more clear example.

That other thread the OP linked to does seem to show a significant difference in the color of the tag on the wheels/rims. Both are in the same picture, so lighting shouldn't be a factor.

Oh - but I think the same analysis still applies. The black cladding looks different in the 2 pix too. I just think it's because it's computer generated, and not a real picture. The same could be said about the side marker light too....

I’ve spent more than two decades producing content and managing color consistency for a handful of automakers. Lightning most definitely effect color and color perception. And color consistency cannot be ensured unless additional effort (image editing, post processing) is made to achieve it. And mistakes do happen, especially in CG.

Oh that. I too thought you were talking about the center cap (and caliper). Production change/correction. “Compass Yellow” has never been bright highlighter yellow.

I’ve spent more than two decades producing content and managing color consistency for a handful of automakers. Lightning most definitely effect color and color perception. And color consistency cannot be ensured unless additional effort (image editing, post processing) is made to achieve it. And mistakes do happen, especially in CG.

I would absolutely agree lighting in CG images is finicky. I just brought up this thread because at one point the configurator got it right and now it either doesn't or future wheels will have mismatched logo and calipers.

This looks like R1 wheels on a Borealis R1? I'm not sure anyone could make any statement about what the R2 wheels are like. It's also possible that the "yellow" Rivian badge there has faded under UV with time. The other images with the grey cars clearly have different exposure/brightness levels so they can't be used for direct comparison.

Edit: I will say that while in-person with an R2 performance with these wheels, I did not notice any obvious color-mismatch and the wheels did not look out of place. I admit to not scrutinizing these a great deal though.
