Never been on a forum before but I signed up because I need to find people who understand Rivian. Had the worst customer service experience of my life buying a Rivian, to the point that I wanted to give it back at the point of delivery and say Hell no, you guys absolutely suck, keep it!

Turns out we were too far down the road at that point so now I'm stuck with it. There isn't a single thing on it that has worked the way it was supposed to. I have had to do the re-set trick a couple of times (hold down the hazards button and the left steering wheel button). It doesn't do the number of miles it's supposed to. I cannot believe it doesn't come with a spare wheel. I'm from England where it's illegal to sell a car without a functioning spare wheel, I will never understand why they would do that.

They promised me an adapter, didn't deliver. They promised me it would be ready for pick up, drove 4 hours to pick up and it wasn't so they sent me home and promised me a set of rubber floor mats to "make it right" then they did't follow through. The first five times I got in to drive it I had go through the cycle of "Hello, let's set your mirrors, seat and steering wheel."

Fundamentally, I've never been more disappointed in a new car, I feel really let down. I am grateful for just about everything else in my life, I am working at being grateful for my Rivian, but honestly three days in it's still hard work.

I'm wondering if anyone had a good purchase experience? If you like your Rivian, how long did it take for you to like it?

Thanks.
Got mine April 2022. No problems with purchase. There have been continuous OTA updates that have really enhanced the truck. I've had a couple recall issues which have all been resolved quickly...a couple of them in my driveway by mobile service. So, pretty happy.

Seeing how people are sharing their experience buying a Rivian mine went really well. The only thing I messed up on was my title was mid flight when I did the deposit thinking I had 2-3 weeks. 2 minutes later I got a VIN number from Rivian. o_O

We did paperwork for about 10 minutes and then the representative told me I could drive off then and there (I had test driven the R1S, R2, R1S again, R1T, etc so kind of knew how to get home) or he could give me a quick start tour of the car. I decided to stick around with the quick start tour.

Got the All-terrain package so mine came with a full spare.

My R1T delivery (Seattle, early July '26) was excellent. Team were super professional. Vehicle was ready, everything in top shape. They did not have the sun visor, but shipped it shortly after direct to me. They walked me through all the setup steps in the software, and the software was on the latest version that was still rolling out to the whole fleet. So far, the only complaint I have about the vehicle is that it detects my partner's key before mine whenever she is with me.

Maybe leave the bad delivery experience behind so that you can see the vehicle with fresh eyes. Complete the first-time setup all the way through so that it does not restart from step 1. As a former Model S driver, I thought I would be much less happy with a Rivian. Instead, the R1T has been an absolute delight.

Kevin,

I’m sorry your delivery experience was so disappointing. Missing promised items, making a four-hour trip only to find the vehicle wasn’t ready, and then having continued setup issues would frustrate anyone...especially after making such a significant purchase!

For another perspective, I recently (August 5th) took delivery of my R1T through the Franklin, Tennessee Service Center, and my experience was excellent. The team spent about two hours with me at delivery, walking through the truck, helping me understand the settings, and demonstrating most of the major features. My adapter was in the drawer that goes where the camp speaker went and the all-weather mats were shipped to my house separately. I was surprised the mats weren't there at delivery, but they told me I would receive them in the mail soon. Sure enough, I received them four days later.

I did find two relatively minor issues: the factory PPF on the driver-side gear tunnel is beginning to peel, and there are a few scuff marks on the inside of the driver’s door panel. Both are already scheduled to be addressed this Wednesday.

I loved the truck almost immediately, but I also think the quality of the delivery experience makes a huge difference in how those first few days feel. Hopefully, Rivian follows through quickly on the adapter, floor mats, profile issue, and anything else that isn’t working correctly. Your frustration is understandable, and I hope that once those problems are resolved, you’re able to enjoy the truck itself.
