Great to hear this will be coming to CA. Just bought my new R1T - now it looks like I have some potential to have this truck for the long term. Loving it so far!

I started a thread to compare Xcare and RivianCare:

https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/xcare-vs-riviancare-now-available-in-48-states.61789/

Lots of good info so far. Here are a couple of items to consider:

Both plans will only cover the replacement of a component one time. Meaning if your front right dampener fails and they replace it, neither will replace it again.

I have not been able to review the RivianCare docs yet but no one has mentioned a similar limit.

I think both limits are concerning. I do not like that Rivian is so unsure of their product that they would allow a VSC provider to limit replacements to one time. My primary concern is the suspension. It’s not a secret that there are problems there. They really should address this with their owners. The suspension, at least on the Gen 1, is problematic.
.
Yea, I agree it isn't ideal. As someone who had three power running board motors replaced on a 2003 Ford Explorer years ago which are about 2k per motor I can see this not being ideal at all.

I signed up for XCare about a year ago. I'm 2,500 miles from the end of my bumper-to-bumper. This is will be fun to watch.
I'm curious how many of you here have it? Does it give you peace of mind?

'been going in circles looking for 'Rivian Care' while logged in to my Rivian account. Where is the link? TIA!
It took me a while as well. It's in "Insurance", which is an option at the footer of the page.

"Fill out this form, we'll get back to you within 48 hours"

Try to submit..

"Something went wrong. You may have already submitted the form with your email and selected state"

Yeah, I filled out the "it's not available in your state yet, we'll contact you when it is" ages ago. Rivian officially launched it in my state a couple months ago, and even though all the marketing said "available in a bunch of state", the "interest" form said "only available in Texas, we'll contact you when it's in your state".

So I'm in limbo. I can't ask them to contact me again, and they have never contacted me even though it's supposedly been available in my state for a while.

Fun fact:

"Due to the eligibility guidelines given to us by Assurant (the plan administrator), if you have more than 80k miles on your Rivian, you may not be able to select our vehicle service contract, and may be limited to the preferred vehicle protection plan when that link arrives."

Lots of good info so far. Here are a couple of items to consider:

Both plans will only cover the replacement of a component one time. Meaning if your front right dampener fails and they replace it, neither will replace it again.

The Xcare plan is limited by the JD Power Trade In Value. They will not pay a claim if the total of all previously paid claims and the pending claim are more than the current trade in value. While not an initial concern, as the vehicle ages and the repair cost accumulate, the vehicles value will also be decreasing. I assume they will intersect before the end of the warranty term or the mileage limits. This is assuming Rivian makes it and the trade in value doesn’t plummet. This may be the deciding factor for me between these two plans.

Xcare is offering an 18 payment plan (inc 20% down) and I hear RivianCare is offering a 24 payment plan. Both are helpful.

I am also told by a Xcare rep that their plan prices are going up in the near future due to more payouts for….you guessed it…suspensions issues than they were anticipating.
Thanks for doing the work on this. I wonder if the "one-time only" replacement policy is really as bad as first appears. Wouldn't the new part have its own warranty? And if the second failure was caused by the failure of another part, something I'd think could be common with suspension components, would replacement of that affected component be excluded from the whole claim due to the "one-time only" stipulation?

The issue of coverage vs vehicle value is also a bit concerning. The value of a six-plus year old R1 could easily be close to that of the car WC Fields was driving in "The Bank Dick", which is to say nil. That's an exaggeration but there is little doubt that repair costs will be high and also likely that residual values will not be stellar.

I call BS that you have to pay the premium to get your used vehicle from Rivian’s used fleet, especially since the “inspection” doesn’t meet muster. Seems there are posts with bought used from rivian and immediately had xyz problem and/or not even cleaned out? Should be able to take your used Rivian to a service center, have them verify it isn’t damaged and get Rivian Care. Otherwise change the name to Rivian Sort of Cares.
I was emailing with a Rivian Care advisor and I expressed my discontent that it’s only available to owners who bought directly from Rivian. I also highlighted how buying used from Rivian by no means guarantees a vehicle will have fewer warranty claims and this was the justification he provided:

Good afternoon,

Thank you for your feedback. Until we can figure out how to handle inspection volumes at the service centers to verify vehicle condition, we won't be able to pass these along to Assurant. We want to offer the product, but we're not there yet. My apologies.

I posted my experience already, others have too. All of us on the older contract are covered under the no‑limit repeat‑failure warranty. I’m running this truck into the dirt. 73k miles and still solid. Coil over swap planned when the air suspension gets too tired....

Does anyone know if the one time only coverage for specific parts is relatively common for extended warranty programs in general or for luxury vehicles specifically?

Interesting. So you can get it if your truck gets inspected by Rivian? Those of us near the end of our factory warranty would probably schedule an “end of warranty” inspection anyway. Would be nice if Rivian offered this as “we’ll get you a quote immediately following your inspection and any warranty repairs”.

I've only had one other extended warranty, for a Volvo XC90 V-8 Sport that was a great car in many ways, but a massive money pit. I used the extended warranty extensively, but honestly don't know if it had a one-time only clause. None of the repairs - power steering pump, alternator, rear differential to name just a few - failed a second time, but I was reaching the warranty limit for total repair costs when I sold it. It actually went to a guy who was a former Volvo mechanic, so knew what he was in for. I leased Volvos after that.
