They're also not representative of real world conditions or drivers, which is why no one has gotten the claimed range. The closest test to the EPA cycle was Edmunds, and even then they were still 8% below EPA claims.
I read up on the Edmunds test and they define a highway as any road with a posted speed limit of 55, and they instruct their drivers to be within 5 miles of the posted limit. So, their highway test portion would have ranged from 50-70 mph. A small technicality, however, I would much rather have...
The EPA cycle is not real world, you CAN'T drive like the EPA cycle because wind, weather, road surfaces, elevation, etc. all exist.
Plus I already brought this up, the Edmunds test was the closest to the EPA cycle in terms of city/highway splits, and even they were still 8% UNDER the EPA...
No one claimed the 20" were as efficient that the 21", not even OOP:
Everything so far has shown that the Rivian and the EPA claimed range for the R2 is overestimated, and it appears so is the efficiency gap between the 21" and 20".
OOS, SOC, Andrew Vaught, Edmunds, Car and Driver, Motor Trend. All ran real world tests and none got the EPA and Rivian stated range. Edmunds came closest but was still 8% under EPA/Rivian stated range.
You are correct, the Rivian 20" BFG does not have 3PMSF. However, it does appear to have a 50K mile warranty according to the BFG website.
I agree it's best to take Rivian's published efficiency into account when making your decision and prepare for a 7% less efficient wheel/tire. However...
