  1. Does the R2 make the Polestar 3 DOA?

I think they appeal to a different customer. Not sure a potential P3 customer weighs price as a primary factor. I think P3 will be cross shopped with the Macan EV. At least that is what I plan to do... sporty and luxury with good enough range and good suspension. Until the R3X comes out...
  2. Cybertruck taking the road less traveled

Pretty sure my Rubicon 392 wouldn't have issues either, with proper diffs and lockers (and a winch).
  3. R1S vs Model Y in mud

At the risk of perhaps opening another can of worms, I wonder if the M-Y's open diff (combined with its lighter weight) might also have been an advantage compared to the 4-motor R1S, which as we know results in all four wheel slipping in low-traction. The open-diff on the M-Y would have caused...
  4. Polestar 3 SUV annouced, makes R1S look like a great deal!

Each to his own, I say. People choose their vehicles based on their own particular needs and preferences, and price is only one variable. Personally I love my P2, and was happy to pay the premium for the suspension (Ohlins dampers), which for my preferred driving style might be the best I have...
  5. Dont get too happy just yet, Tesla SCs are designed for Teslas.

I am not assuming that Tesla will maintain a long-term dominance. However, for the near future (2023-2026?) they have the largest fleet on the road by a large margin. And there are several other OEM's putting the charge port in the same location (Polestar and Volvo are two examples but there...
  6. Dont get too happy just yet, Tesla SCs are designed for Teslas.

The issue is that ~70% of EVs on the road are Tesla’s. Add to that Polestar’s and Volvo’s that also have the port on the rear left. Plus future Ford and GMs optimized for the Sc network. Therefore, when you pull into a SC location, it is most likely that many stalls will be occupied by vehicles...
  7. ? Rivian Adopts Tesla NACS Standard! (Adapters in 2024, Standard Charging Port in 2025)

So confused by this... do you mean that the adapter that we carry in our cars/trucks will have 20' of liquid-cooled cable attached, and that we also have to plug it in to a 110V outlet somewhere? And 18 AWG seems tiny. Was this a joke post?
  8. When will Rivian admit that avoiding AA/Carplay is not about providing "better" UX?

Thanks for this! But my question is really whether the Rivian UX as it is today will allow me to stream the audio for a Zoom call to the car, or do I need to use a headset with my phone (which I have had to do in some cars)?
  9. When will Rivian admit that avoiding AA/Carplay is not about providing "better" UX?

Quick question: does the current UX allow you to conduct Zoom, Teams or Googlemeet calls from your phone? I assume it works through the Bluetooth, but have been in some cars where that doesn’t work reliably with those apps for some reason.
  10. Retrospective on winter driving performance?

Thanks! My worst fear is one of those “heart in the mouth” moments in windy and snowy conditions on the highway, even at reduced highway speeds, when you momentarily lose control. When that happens, and it seems to happen on almost every winter drive up there in the ADKs, will I be able to...
  11. Retrospective on winter driving performance?

Hi all, Now that we have finally shed winter (I assume), I am interested on people's verdict on the snow and ice performance of the R1T/R1S. Not so interested in capability in super deep snow, but more in terms of safety and confidence on snowy and icy roads and (especially) highways. I...
  12. An idiot hit us in “ Small overlap front collision” and I assume totaled my R1T [Updated with pic of damage to other truck ?]

For those interested, Sandy Munroe’s team explained the “offensive” strategy implemented by Rivian for these kind of overlapping collisions, to deflect the car away upon impact (as opposed to the traditional crumple defensive strategy). The video I have linked addresses this around 4-6 mins in...
  13. An idiot hit us in “ Small overlap front collision” and I assume totaled my R1T [Updated with pic of damage to other truck ?]

Actually the calculation he did was for momentum (m*v). Momentum is conserved in collisions. Kinetic energy is 1/2 m v^2 and is not conserved. But his calculation and conclusions are generally correct.
  14. A Rivian buyer got his dream car after a 3-year wait. Days later, the car was dead and he faced a $2,100 bill.

Wow, you guys are a tough crowd! I was just trying to give a stranger (to me) the benefit of doubt, and generally be nicer to people, especially on line. FWIW, I rarely read the entire manual before driving a new car, although I may read it shortly thereafter. Many people on this forum are...
  15. A Rivian buyer got his dream car after a 3-year wait. Days later, the car was dead and he faced a $2,100 bill.

I think you guys are all being a little harsh. Admittedly, it was user-error and Rivian is not to blame. But the vast majority of car owners do not read the manual. And many potential buyers of Rivian SUV's have likely never been towed nor will likely tow anything, so being aware of a "towing...
