I just did the same comparison and think you nailed it. The R2 is 85% of an R1 at half the price. I really enjoyed the agility of it but there's definitely a downgrade with regards to tactile interior feel and materials. The seat was comfortable but softer and not as solid as the R1. I think...
I'm in Naples and haven't tinted my glass. My cars are white. I find that the only time my R1 really heated up was at high noon. I clipped in a sunroof liner ($50). I really wish sunroof delete was an option. I would actually pay more not to have one.
Rivian interiors hold up incredibly well. The light colors don't absorb dirt like a true leather interior does. My green interior doesn't have a mark on it. I don't know how many vegans they slaughter for the "vegan leather" but I'm grateful.
They are absolute fools to not rush this into production. Do they have any idea how many storm sensitive owners that can't wait to get their hands on a quiet energy system that actually starts when it's needed? I would buy this in a heartbeat over having to listen to my generator after a hurricane.
I just leased a Model 3 for my daughter (17 years olden accidents) My insurance went up $750/month. That was Nationwide. Gieco was $2 cheaper. I almost returned the car.
I've had R1S with 20 and 21's. The 21 was more of a raid tire and had better range and was quieter. The 20's are more off-road worthy and absorb more road imperfections. The 20 inch wheel with AT tires also have a slightly bigger diameter and IMO look better on an off roadish vehicle
The mechanics at the Ft. Myers service center have been spot on. Maybe bad mechanics is just a regional thing. They replaced my AC system and even the carpet as it apparently had become wet. They also offered to deliver my car when finished even though I'm 30 miles south.
Why would the R2 have a locking diff when the R1 doesn't even have one? Nor will you need it. If you're going that hardcore you're looking at the wrong vehicle.
China subsidizes by offering more than zero interest loans. They also refuse to protect intellectual property making R&D significantly cheaper when you just copy others work. Not to mention human rights violations that would put any Western firm in prison. So no, I'm not impressed by Chinese...
I couldn't get 18,000 out of mine before the noise became too much. That's happened to me on an R1T and an R1S. I do more city driving and I think that's the catch. It's hard not to use all that power when it's just right there!
I'm pretty content with quick charging with 300 miles of range (which I rarely use). Bigger battery=more weight= more tires and poorer handling. I'd prefer to live with smaller battery, better handling and longer tire life as that's 95% of my use. To sacrifice those thing for 25% more range when...
