Hi. New to the group. We just picked up our 2025 R1T two days ago. Looking forward to the adventure! We are currently looking at accessories to ā€˜pimp out’ our Rivian!

Drove the slate mountain lookout Loop and some forest roads today in the el dorado national forest.

anyone familiar with rock creek rd (12N70)? i was planning on taking it all the way north to wentworth springs, but there was a sign saying it was impassible due to a washout. i took 12N72 north (past bald mountain) to wentworth springs rd instead.

i wonder if there's an unofficial creek crossing at the washout, but didn't have time to explore...

Hi Friends,

Ryan here in SAC! Admittedly, I do not own nor have I ordered a Rivian yet but I’m very interested.

Test drove an R1 a few weeks ago and there are some elements that cause me pause:

1) The seats seem very uncomfortable, hard even.
2) The sun roof is awesome, but would like a shade cover built in and activated with the screen or button.
3) The size I think is too large for my needs - two men and a sheepadoodle. The other concern regarding size is my want for a spacious front seats interior, I want lots of space between driver and passenger.
- I wish there was an R1 with different sizes, like Land Rover Defender (90 - smallest, 110 - medium, and the large one). I’d go for the R1, meduim
4) R2 may be my jam, but I’m concerned with the driver and passenger spacing being smaller.

The other brand I’m interested in is the Land Rover, Defender 110, but in an EV - why I haven’t moved forward with them.

I look forward to connecting and learning more about your experiences and perhaps some insights.

Long time Rivian driver

I don’t feel the seats are too hard. Perhaps mine are broken in
about 30k Miles on this Rivian

I like the roof glass but in summer I install a shade that I will remove in winter.

Size is based on needs of course. I have R1T and find the truck extremely useful. If the dog can sit in the back seat perhaps that’s a win win. Of course the truck is a little longer than the suv. But for some reason I like its proportions better.

I have a 2024 R1S (1st gen) and indeed the seats are very hard. If you don't like them after a short test drive, you'll absolutely hate them after a long road trip. Suggest you stay away from Rivian 1 series. Perhaps the R2 series may offer softer seats.

The glass top for all these EVs are terrible for the Sac area. I have a R1S and a Tesla Model Y and both have the exact same problems: massive heat. The interior cabin is basically a green house. Heat kills batteries. It's terrible for all these EVs. There's no built in sunshade nor is there any 3rd party after market sunshade that will be electronically activated with a button or app. There are these terrible inconvenient manually installed shades for the top glass but they're very cumbersome to put up. Which completely defeats the purpose of the glass roof. Just a stupid design and we can all blame Tesla for starting this trend.

I'm personally looking forward to the Land Rover EV. Very interested in test driving that when it eventually comes out.
We live in Granite Bay, Placer County.

Took Delivery of our R1S November 10, 2023. Forest Green and OC. 21" wheels.

Placed our order on Feb. 28, 2022, but jumped up our delivery by a couple of months through shopping the R1S Shop. Found just what we wanted and a bit more.

Would like to hear about gatherings or events, as well as having some "neighbors" to chat with about things Rivian.

If there's other info I should provide in joining this group, let me know.

Thanks for the welcome. With not quite six months ownership under our belt we've already put over 10,000 miles on our Rivian. Very few and minor issues.
Did have a dash rattle, but then it seems who hasn't had that. Sacramento SC fixed it very quickly and well, as did they also on a couple of minor cosmetic blemishes back at the time of delivery.
When I took it back in for what I believed to be a recurrence of the rattle the tech took a test drive with me. (If you're going to hear a rattle, drive the streets around the SC and you'll hear it for sure.) Turned out I just had some personal items in the car that weren't tucked in properly. I'm slightly hearing impaired and directions of sounds can fool me sometimes, so it was all on me. The tech and I shared a laugh on me.
Had our first service check done at home. Tech found that an oil cap had come off the right front motor. I think it may have been from a very hard jolt we took going through some not so well done road repairs over in SLO County a while back. SC fixed it in a day and under warranty.
Can you tell that I'm impressed with our SC? Good people there.
Early on had to go through the learning curve of charging, especially on longer trips. Had my teachable moments, but seem to have a handle on it now. In town we have our home charger which was part of our solar installation a few months after placing our Rivian order.
I'd certainly tag along on an outing to the SVRA. Very little experience with offroading, but I'm sure I could learn a few things. Maybe watch, cheer, and take photos.
Or perhaps we could do an informal social gathering to admire and discuss our Rivians, and to swap stories and advice.
In any event, glad to be on board with you folks and look forward to meeting in person one day.

@Placer Paul That's a lot of miles in six months! Are you using abetterrouteplanner.com for planning road trips? It's super helpful for charting out chargers and stops.

I'll start thinking about times and locations for a meetup this summer.

Hi Paul, Welcome ! I've met with others at Prairie City and we have made it to a few easy trails last year and a couple of Prairie City trips. This year probably will do a few more again. Let me know if you are interested in joining future trips. I posted here last year but back then there was not a lot of local action. FB and the Other Forum were more active so we set up gatherings etc. there. I'm always up to meet new Rivian owners. If you want to do a a Prairie City meet up and meet with @sacramentoelectric we can do that. This month only next weekend works for me though. June opens up a bit more.
Placer Paul
Due to scheduled family travel I'd need to push out a meet up to late June and after. Let's stay in touch.
Just picked up our R1S today : Granite on 21" All-Terrain black rims, Ocean + Ebony interior, ADV package (of course, as only way to get the 21" AT...) So far - drove it home from the Sac SVC Ctr to our home north of Auburn. A bit bumpier on anything other than all-purpose and soft, with medium stability control but it is an off roading vehicle. Replaced our Tesla Model X with the Rivian - so we kept the Tesla Wall Charger and are using Westsaim Tesla to J1772 Charging Adapter - tested it and seems to work at about 11Kw/hr.

Getting the windows XPEL Nano Clear Ceramic tint on all windows, windshield and roof next week for the Sac Valley heat rejection we will need this summer. Still figuring out the ins/outs of it but the interface is fairly straightforward - took a just a few minutes to put the phone icon on the main screen menu - odd it isn't there by default.

Any tips for newbie owner - please send 'em our way! Thanks and looking forward to the community.

Welcome to the CLub!!

Keep an eye out for other Rivian's and wave if you are in the mood!!

Nothing I am aware of, just do your due diligence and inspect on delivery. Mine when I picked it up had all the USBC non functioning. It was fixed later on.

Hello! We are expecting delivery of our R1S Dec 2nd. It’s been a very fast process for us (placed our pre-order last week) so we are scrambling to get our garage ready for charging. Did anyone use SMUD and their EV chargers and rebates? If so- are you happy with that? We are deciding between a wall charger and just using an unused 240V dryer charger. Thanks for any advice!

Yes I used the SMUD instant rebate for the juice box 32 amp. Out the door price was $175. I think the mobile charger that comes with the vehicle is a 32 amp charger so I could have saved my self money there. That said it’s nice to have a box there.
Pawsandjaws
@fifedog thank you! We are getting the smud rebate for a $29 +tax 32 amp. Thanks for your input!
fifedog
fifedog
@Pawsandjaws I charge when we get to 40% up to 70% and it takes about 7 hours. ~8kWh an hour. With the 1.5 cent rebate from SMUD we pay about 9.5 cents a kWh from midnight to 6 am.
Nine_One_Six_R1S
Welcome to the Club, I was tempted by SMUD but ended up going with the Rivian. I still have not installed mine but that is another story.

Right now it's about $29 bucks for the 32 AMP at SMUD with the rebate.

As far as going with the dryer outlet, I've read that those outlets are not really graded for many insertions and eventually fail or could cause a fire.
Pawsandjaws
@Nine_One_Six_R1S thanks for the feedback! We ended up getting the 32amp from smud. Hoping it works well!
Nine_One_Six_R1S
@Pawsandjaws Are you doing DIY or hiring this out? Either way Let us know how the install goes.
Pawsandjaws
@Nine_One_Six_R1S we hired an electrician outside of SMUD who did the install for about $700. Juicebox from smud was $89 including taxes. We took delivery 12/2 and have been getting 18 mi/hr when charging.
Nine_One_Six_R1S
Awesome, I am thinking of going the SMUD route and just selling my Rivian Wall Charger. $700 for that install is not that bad. Do you know how far was then run to the actual install spot from your panel?
We need to get together so you can share your electrician contact. :^)
Maybe a trip to Prairie City after Christmas. I know I'll be bored that week.

New R1S owner here. Just wanted to say hi. Placed Order in Summer of 21 and finally got to pick her up her at West Sac SC last week.

I'm in EG by the way. Ping me if you are wheeling. I don't have a spare so probably some easy trails first.

Welcome to the club! Just went wheeling yesterday at Prairie City. You’ll be impressed with what this thing can do, no matter what your 4x experience has been. Pretty spectacular! Will definitely let you know next time we go out, which will probably be in another week or two.

Great!! sure thing. I'll send you a DM with my phone#. Feel free to call or text for the next outing. Notifications from forum have been hit or miss.

I would highly recommend getting a spare now. I had my rig for 3 days and had a flat. And had to be towed. What a waste of time. If I would've had a spare I would've been down for 30 minutes instead of 4 hours.
Anyone else have the sloshing sound/noise coming from the rear area when you first start driving your Rivian? Has Rivian fixed it or discovered what it is?

Can say that I have. Is this r1T or r1S? I have heard a few people say water has collected in doors and needs to drain out. Perhaps that’s it.
Cafireman

Nine_One_Six_R1S
It's probably water from rain or carwash collected/trapped in the doors. I was cleaning inspecting my door seals in the back passenger door and saw some water come out when I jiggled the seals. Needs better draining in that area.

Got my R1T back in June just now getting around to looking into a local area club. Glad it was so easy to find! Hello everyone!

We used APPEARANCE SOLUTIONS. It isn't in the greatest-looking part of town (west Sacramento off Power Line rd., but when we pulled up and walked in, they were PPFing an R1S, R1T, Ferrari, Mercedes, Range Rover and a Porsche. Supposedly this is where all the Sacramento Kings get their cars done. We got the front wrapped and the mirrors as well. He also did the doors (not all the way up) only the lower part of the truck bed area. Complete ceramic coat and window tinting and it was about $5,000......totally worth it. My brother-in-law had his R1T Matte wrapped and it looks amazing. https://www.appearance-solutions.com/

SMUD has an instant rebate program for the JuiceBox. Its max amp is 32, though. I purchased mine and out the door, it was $173.
Kochusan
I did this when it was on sale and it was $59 after rebate. It goes on sale often. The unit works but the app from enelX app is terrible. It logs out about 90% of the time and crashes. It does work manually but can't read any stats on the sessions if the app crashed. It delivers the full 32 amps and the cable and connector are high quality. Overall, given the app performance, there's better units out there.

Only fridge i have seen talked about on the forums that fit in the gear tunnel is the iceco go20, which I can confirm as well since I have one. Have to rotate it ~5 degrees to get it through the door but it fits fine when in there. The one you linked is a bit taller but i suspect you can fit it in there. Ive found that the fronk is a much more convenient place for a fridge anyway. Either way, if your truck is sitting in the 90+ degree direct sunlight, the fridge will struggle to keep its contents cool in either location in the truck. Seems to do fine when its in shade or when in motion on the highway since it has airflow.

Mine won't charge in the slot either. I can charge it via USB. One time I got it to connect to the truck and it showed the battery level but now it won't connect anymore. Rivian is going to take a look at it during my next service appointment.

I have heard that you have to remove it and charge it via a usb-c cable the first time and then it will charge after that. I have not had that issue the one time I removed the speaker.

Did you drive from SoCal to NorCal?. Where was the most reliable stop?. We are going to SoCal next month and will be driving the R1T and I have been researching and studying and using PLug Share to see reviews. It seems like Kettleman City is a good spot or Harris Ranch. I am hoping that the Buttonwillow RAN station will get online soon. It has been a yellow diamond for 6 months since I have been checking.
Charging Dilemma? Currently using a 60a Breaker 240v on a Nema 1450 Receptacle and getting about 15 mi/hour charge rate. I was looking at a Juicebox 40 and their specs show a 20mi/hour charge rate. I called Rivian and they claim their OEM Charge Box charges at 25mi/hour rate. I found a Juicebox 40 for about $300 online, but they want a min of $500 for the OEM Rivian, what's the consensus on chargers?

Joseph D
Mi/hour is relative to the efficiency of the vehicle, and when needing advice its better to use what the power delivery is in kilowatts. Keep in mind that whatever plug you are pulling power from can only deliver 80% of the spec'd power continuously. If you are using the included portable charger (as I assume you are as you are plugged into a nema 14-50), it is a 40 amp charger that can pull 32 amps from the wall. 32amps x ~240 V = 7680 watts or ~7.7 kilowatts. 7.7 kw x 2.2 mi/kw (lets use this value for efficiency) =16.8 miles/hour. Take off ~10% of that for overhead of vehicle functions 16.8 * .9 = 15.2 miles/hour. Thus reaches your value you are getting. Realistically you would only get more power by getting a 50 amp charger (mobile or wall mounted) which would net you around 9.6 kw charging speed.

If you went for the OEM Rivian wall box, its a 60 amp charger that is installed hard-lined by a electrician. This is only necessary if you are going to use it in the future for a vehicle-to-home setup that Rivian says is on the way. Otherwise you can get any old mobile or wall charger and mount it yourself and plug it into the 14-50 outlet.

Side note: Some Electricity providers provide rebates for installing chargers, so check what yours will give you for it. I see from your account that you are in Granite Bay so I don't believe you have SMUD like I do, but for example SMUD gave me 500$ towards a 32amp home charger (that was on their approved list) and a reduced rate from midnight-6am for EV charging.

We originally got a Lectron 32a for our Toyota RAV Prime and had a 14-50 plug installed on the side of the house. It has been outside 24-7/365 through all the weather we have had for over 2 years and it has worked flawlessly. I get about 12 miles per hour of charge. We start at 9 pm and go until 9 am (PG&E) and that will give us over 140 miles. If I need to juice up, I stop at the REI in Sacramento or Manteca and use the RAN chargers. We have the R1T
Anyone else having a problem formating and/or the final speed test to setup the USB-C flash drive to setup your security video feature? I've tried 3 different drives even had to find a special 128gb USB-C connector flash drive, but that didn't for either! What's the secret or is this another Rivian defect?

New Rivian R1T Owner here, I can't wait until 2024 to get a Rivian CCS to tesla NACS Adapter. I called Rivian today and their Customer Support personnel did not know what I was talking about! Seriously?

I currently have a Tesla Wall Charger and want to get the proper adapter so I can charge my Rivian at home and on the road using Magic Dock and the Tesla Supercharger Network.

Specifically what adapter do I need? I was told by Tesla to check Amazon, and Rivian said the same thing however Amazon doesn't list that configuration, unless I am missing something?

If you can send me a link to the aftermarket Rivian to Tesla adapter I would appreciate it!
