Received a phone call and text from Rivian Service Support notifying me of a ā€˜Service Campaign’ for hub bolts needing to be fastened and torqued. I called back, and the national line told me that my local service center would be reaching out to schedule me since my local (Mpls) center handles their own scheduling. I did get a call today from them and I couldn't pick up, but they auto scheduled me to the next available mobile service appointment (March 26th).

Just sharing in case anyone else finds this information useful. I’m fine so far with how they seem to be handling this. they did mention that the vehicle remains safe to drive, so not to worry.

Thanks. I have a mobile service scheduled for March 18th for tire rotation and inspection. I'll keep this in mind and ask them about it.

I have an April 2023 Gen1 R1T.
ThumprMN
I normally set my system to 70’ and use auto to let it do its thing. However, I have this habit of turning off the HVAC system and canceling the heated seats and steering wheel (or cooled seats in summer) when I arrive at my destination. And then start them up again when i come back or ahead of time from the app to pre-condition the cabin. My buddy recently asked me why I bother… ā€Just set it to Auto and be done with itā€.

Question: Am I wasting my effort since the vehicle will shut off those systems shortly after I walk away and start up as soon as i get back in? Does anyone else still micro manage the HVAC like this?

In my head i feel like I’m saving battery… but maybe it’s so negligible that I should just set it and forget it? Thoughts?

I do the same as you but cannot give you a good reason why! Just don’t want it to run for those few moments before it shuts down?

I always used to use manual. But now I have a Gen2 R1T and the HVAC is undeniably louder. But sometimes in auto it is much quieter and sometimes in manual it is much quieter so I find myself switching between the two when stopped or traveling slow. At high speeds I can’t hear it at all so it does not matter.
wjhdrew
wjhdrew
I tried turning them off before leaving the vehicle, but it was often more annoying to me to need to turn them back on when I enter the vehicle again. So now I just leave things at Auto - Low.
egar
Granted I’ve only had my Gen 2 R1T about 3 months, but I’ve always just used auto. Never even considered doing it differently. No issues with that method at all. Usually warms up nicely when I precondition the cab with scheduled climate function.

In my previous truck, a Chevy ICE, I never left it fully on auto because it tried to run the A/C and heat at the same time. I know that was for reducing humidity, but it ran A/C even when it wasn’t needed.

Since the Rivian has a heat pump, A/C and heat are the same system.
Hey folks - this is my first winter with my R1S, so I wanted to share something and see if it's "normal" or cause for concern.

For background, I bought my R1S in May. It has the Max battery (400mi range). The SoC and estimated range have always been a perfectly linear relationship: when the battery is at 50%, the estimated range is 200mi; battery 60%, range 240mi; etc.

Starting last week or so (around when we had consecutive days with single-digit temps here in MN), the SoC-to-range relationship is no longer linear. Right now for example, it's at 52% with 201mi estimated (would expect 208mi).

Any others seen this? Is this just the cold-weather impact on the battery, or is this some sudden battery degradation that I need to be concerned about? And if it's just a winter thing, I assume it rebounds back to normal in the warmer months?

If you take a drive of any length, watch the projected range change as the battery warms up. Also, keep notes if you want, on the relationship between your speeds and remaining range. Multiple variables will alter your projected range in real time as you drive. Over time you'll get a feel for all of them rolled together, but start with the knowledge that a cold battery is a range-killer, and faster driving is a range killer...especially long highway trips. You'd be amazed at the boost you'll get with slower speeds on back roads vs. highway, let-er-rip trips.
ThumprMN
ThumprMN
Yes, winter has a noticeable impact, but it also exaggerates the lower efficiency you get on short trips. A cold battery that can warm up will release more range and efficiency, but it takes time and if you are commuting around town and it never has time to warm up, then it feels exaggerated. Taking a longer trip gives the battery a chance to warm up and more accurately unlock battery range. Additionally, get used to paying attention to wind speed and direction, Wind always has an impact but when you’re more aware of range decrease, its helpful to understand how the winds are having an impact.
cheapseats
Thanks all. Yes, I’ve definitely seen the efficiency change when driving faster or slower on the higher for longer trips. Good to know that winter temps are to blame for what I’m seeing lately with normal driving.
I apologize if this is not the appropriate place to post, but I installed the running board and wanted to share some of its features here.

Noticed something other iOS users might want to know about. In iOS 18, you have the ability to lock any app using FaceID. I tried this out and added the requirement to my Rivian app thinking I was helping add a layer of security to prevent car theft if my phone was stolen/hacked. Unfortunately, this feature disables the ability to use the Widgets to access shortcuts to the car features.

Got a call today from Rivian service out of the blue telling me that my 12v battery charge was getting low and needs to be replaced. Has anyone else gotten call like this? I looked all over and can’t see anywhere I can check on the battery levels in the car UI or the app.

I called back and got a mobile service appointment for the 30th. Soonest they had available. Interesting that they proactively monitored for it and notified me.

Good luck. Will be interested to hear how they resolve it. I got impatient and took a Connect+ subscription on the 18th. After the first time seeing it and showing the kids, I haven't really played with it. I do enjoy the hoots though.

Battery replaced successfully. Took about an hour. He didn’t share too much information that hasn’t already been said in the forums, but alluded to there needing someone dedicated to rooting through all the data to find the vehicles with 12v issues based on the data trends. Guess I’m glad they caught mine before it bricked randomly.

Was able to get them to force the software update so I get at least 1 day to enjoy the car costumes. Really well executed in my opinion.

A simple vent but just found a big nail in my front passenger tire. So sad, but glad I have the full spare so I can simply swap with the kit I got with the car and then take the flat tire/wheel to discountTire to fix and not have to bother with a temp fix to get the vehicle there, etc.

I had a puncture three miles away from home and was able to make it home with 25 PSI left. Good thing, as the compressor did not work. I used the ā€œfixaflatā€ juice with my home compressor. (I found the hole, but not the culprit.). It worked great. After three weeks, no need for air. Total confidence in this product now. And the compressor is scheduled for service. In the meantime, I have a floor pump.

Well, it was my turn to get the NACS email. For timing reference, I’m a late 2019 reservation holder, and took delivery in April 2023.

This may be a long shot, but I was wondering if anyone in the West Metro had a NACS to CSS adapter for using a supercharger that I could borrow?

I just bought a used ā€˜23 R1S and want to drive round trip to Black River Falls (Wazee) tomorrow to scuba dive. I ordered the A2Z but it isn’t here yet. If anyone is near Plymouth and won’t be using their adapter tomorrow, it would be a lot more convenient for me.

Also - first post! Rivian Blue R1S with Ocean Coast interior. The all terrain tires look cool, but the road noise and efficiency with them isn’t great. Other 2 cars are Tesla MY and M3P. The Rivian is a much nicer car overall, and it can tow my 7,500lb boat.

Noticed the cooling seats work a lot better when I remember to turn off the top dash vents (defrost vents).

Hi all - new R1S owner here, tapping into the experts.

I’m taking a trip from Minneapolis to the Silver Bay / Finland MN area next weekend, about 225 mi. My 400-mi Max battery will get me there with plenty to spare, but I’ll need to charge to get home. Would you recommend buying/borrowing an NACS adapter? Or are any of the ChargePoint stations in Duluth fast enough to avoid making it an hour-long stop? Thanks in advance for any tips!

I just did a trip to Winona and back to the Twin Cities today. Charged to 100% to start, and was curious my efficiency would be. I was above 3.12% efficiency most of the trip (sometimes higher and sometimes lower depending on the terrain). Got there and back home using AC the whole way. Got home with 80 miles / 25% state of charge. I did not have to make any charging stops. While i was in Winona, i did drive about 10 miles around town with AC pre-cabin conditioning.

To be honest, pleased with those results. 2023 R1T with 21ā€ aero wheels (covers removed), and aftermarket running boards installed. Did run into several thunderstorm downpours that slowed everyone down both directions, but not too bad.

Great! I’ve also seen some really impressive efficiency results when driving 55 mph or so on rural roads.
Lawrence-of-Blaine
When I drive in town from Blaine to North Oaks, speeds anywhere from 10-55 mph, I get well over 3 mi/kwh. Close to 3.5. Slow with stop and go gives great fuel economy.
ThumprMN
Well, that was unusual. I was at home and I leaned over to check a notification on my phone and noticed the Rivian widget was ā€œBlankā€. Thought it was just a glitch and needed to be reset in the Rivian app it showed I was not connected to the car and phone key was ā€œnot pairedā€.

The app guided that I needed to re-pair while sitting in the vehicle (I was slightly excited this was a strange side effect of the new software release being ready). I went to the truck got in followed the instructions and attempted for 10 minutes to get the vehicle to recognize my phone.

Was about to give up and it suddenly recognized my phone as a key without needing to pair officially. Hope this isn’t a sign that Bluetooth/TCM unit is going bad. Still secretly hoping this is a byproduct of some big download happening.

We just added level 2 charging 11.5 kW at the Port Superior Marina. It is listed as coming soon on PlugShare but it is active now. The Port Side is a great place to have dinner while you add a few miles on your Rivian. Bayfield is a great place to visit lots of hiking and biking trails for your adventure. Ashland has one DC fast charger and a second coming soon. There is also a 50kW charger in Washburn.

Quick update for anyone reading here, called again today. Routed to the 'service center' option, tho it still goes to general support it seems. Second person seemed more instantly willing to go through management to have the local service center reach out directly to arrange the full size spare purchase. Hope it works out!

Appreciate the quote/links. I think I've perused right around there. I saw a callout to 'Special Designation Vehicle' on the Motor Use Vehicles and wanted to make sure I didn't need an extra permit on my vehicle for driving around on the trails.
Thanks!

Just scheduled a 7500 mile maintenance service (I’m over the miles, but this wasn’t offered till recently). I chose the mobile service option, so they will be coming to my house. Will be my first time doing this.

Anyone have questions they want me to be sure to ask or anything I should document?

Has anyone done the mobile service here yet?

I used conserve on my big 4500 mile road trip, but I stick to ā€œAll Purposeā€ for the most part. I pop it into ā€œConserveā€ when I forget to plug it in and need to squeeze a bit more out (still trying to get in a better charging habit).

I had the tires rotated at Discount Tire just before my big road trip… so will be interested to see the state of my wear.
Budman
Budman
I've done the mobile service for tire rotation. I was fine but honestly the Discount Tire route is ultimately easier and cheaper. It took them quite a long time to rotate the tires so I'll just do Discount Tire from now on. I got 35k miles on my first set of 21" road tires with a lot of driving in conserve mode.

7500 mobile service and tire rotation complete. He was a man of few words… wish he had walked me through what all he checked and such… but I got the ā€œlooks good, no issuesā€ a few times.

Additional information:
- He texted an hour before showing up to give me an ETA (I had a 10-2 window)
- Texted when arrived. I gave him the key and went back in to work
- Checked on him once when i saw the tires off so i could get a close look at the brakes and inside workings (forgot to take a picture)
- Texted when he was complete and packing up his gear
- Asked about payment and he said that I would do that through the app? Guess it will get auto-billed sometime later?

If i notice anything after i take it for a drive, I’ll come back and note it.

@ThumprMN idk on Plug Share it seems the EA people haven't been helpful to answering when...
Delano here, just picked up my R1T on 3.23.24, bought a demo from the demo shop. 2022 R1T quad, Canyon Red, black interior, power tonneau, and just shy of 9000 miles. Guide said the first demo delivered out of the TC Service Center. Tonneau is disabled open though and service center said now once its disabled it cannot be re-enable so who knows if it actually broke or just out of caution. Any one getting replacements here? How long did you wait?

ThumprMN
Hmm… I had not heard of them disabling the tonneau covers, but that makes some sense as a demo vehicle, but I suspect you’ll have to wait in line to get the replacement. Make sure you let your Guide know. I personally took delivery during the period where they did NOT equip the truck with one… and I have been hounding then to let me retrofit mine once they get through the backlog of warranty fixes. I’m patient tho, so I’m not making a big deal yet.
Tullyweeds
@ThumprMN Put in for a service ticket before leaving the service center with it. Got a call yesterday from Rivian to let me know I am on the list to be fixed but they could not give me any time frame on when I can get it fixed. I asked if I should expect weeks or months, and they said expect months most likely.

I would opt for the Interrobang manual tonneau. Info can be found on this forum.
