Hello folks! A new owner and a newbie to EVs. I just got my R1S last night and now looking for charger and an installer. Based on prelim research it appears that a universal charger may be better than Rivian Wall charger. Any opinions you can share and also any recommendations for installers in Central NJ? Thanks in advance.

We went with Princeton Electrical, and they were very reasonable. We did not change our panel (100A), but they added a load management system. No issues in the last ~5 months since the install. The overall process was very quick, professional and cost ~$2,300 IIRC (including the load management system, which alone was $799). I got the Tesla Gen3 Universal Wall Charger as well.

For whatever reason, the Rivian Wall Charger has had many problems from many different threads both here and on FB, so if you haven't already, I'd say get anything else.

Another option, if you don't want to go Tesla route, is to get Grizzly - which are made in Canada.

Lastly, yes, please just hard wire the whole install. I was actually debating to do two installations - one hardwire to the Tesla UWC and another Nema 14-50, but decided that was overkill. Not to mention that would add more install costs, but if you have the space and money to do it, you should consider it.

Funny I would not hardware it unless I was getting 80-100A. The power delta from 50 to 60a is really not a big deal. However, I have had to play with chargers to prove a point to both Rivian and BMW, so being able to quickly change the charger to another one was very helpful.

I have a JuiceBox, purchased in 2021, and ChargePoint purchased this year. Stay away from JuiceBox but I've been happy with the CP.

Two questions:

1) Anyone have a good experience with running board installation in Bergen county?

2) Any news on the Nyack service center?

Yeah, the mobile tech who came confirmed Mahwah is not yet a full fledged service center.

The only full service centers for anywhere around us are Brooklyn and Trenton.

I was told by a mobile tech last week that Trenton is so backed up you will never get in there. As long as I never have to drive to Brooklyn again I don't care.

Nyack service scheduler stated that Mahwah will never become "customer facing". The space is a short term rental for new vehicle handovers and an area for Nyack techs to visit to work on vehicles. The current lack of parking at the yet-to-fully-open Nyack center is the glitch they are managing around

If anyone needs to borrow a NACS adapter I have an A2Z Typhoon (standard) and the LECTRON Vortex adapter. I have only use the LECTRON and it worked perfectly.

On the same note, if anyone needs a A2Z adapter, I have two and happy to give one.

I bought an R1T a few months ago and want to use the roof racks on the bed to carry bikes. Since they will be on the bed they will be at their widest position. I am wondering how many bikes I can comfortable mount onto the roof racks? I was hoping for 3. Does anyone have experience with this?

Greetings! A fellow Rutherfordian with an R1S also.

All you buttholes with the S need to start waving/flashing back

. There's at least 3 R1S that I pass almost daily and they never even acknowledge me.
R1T's on the other hand always wave/flash back. Holla to the red canyon R1T in Monroe/Old Bridge.

Green R1S and I also acknowledge a fellow Rivian. Sometimes I just don't think others see us.

I am white R1S and do whenever I can. It maybe just that when you are looking and when they are ready, as we all need to focus on the road first.

I got more waves during my trips to MD VA DC than here in NJ NY.

@mikysee Important to keep your bearings in place, can get lost even on larger roads. Also avoid larger puddles, never know how deep they are.

Hi all. I’m Dan. Picked up my R1S in December. I’m in Jackson.

Just took delivery yesterday, R1S Quad, black/black/black. I’ve driven it 15 feet… lol

few questions:

1. any recommendations on all weather floor mats/liners? Ordered some WAYIDSS from Amazon, not a fan of the fit though. I have to close the doors with more force than I’d like as the mats get in the way.

2. purchased a Samsung s7 SSD for drive cam, states that it fails the speed test. Any recommendations?

3. I know Tesla vehicles often get targeted, anyone have any issues of vandalism or attempted theft.

I’m in Freehold with offices in Princeton, if anyone ever wants to meet up with me and my pavement princess…

I am right next door in Marlboro. no more of a target than anything else on the road today just don't leave your key in the car like so many other idiots.

I bought the Rivian Floor Mats and I am happy with them.

Samsung S7? or T7? If T7 that is what I am using, I would try a different cable, I did not use the included cable. I used this cable (https://a.co/d/gj3bdne) with a right angle adapter (https://a.co/d/jjbEpQ1) and some Velcro to keep it in place, but easily removable.

Worked! Switched out the cable and did a software reset!

Picked it up wednesday before thanksgiving in Brooklyn. Loving the suv so far. Reserved almost a year ago 12/2022. Anyone else have any issues with delivery...not with truck itself but with costumer service?

Brooklyn SC f-n sucks, hopefully you won't have to deal with them anytime soon. It's just the way it is.

yea that doesnt seem to be the greatest place. and its always nice to have the customer rest room out of order when you drive from 2 and 1/2 hrs away.

I ordered mine 07/2021 and received 12/30/2023… I should add as a disclaimer I was a recipient of a NJ grant, which held up the process, I believe I could have received as early as spring/summer this year. But, went to pick up from Brooklyn Thursday, was informed that there was a leak in the windshield molding, and they would deliver it out… wasted about 6 hours of my day.
