Thanks for posting that Kenneth, I hope a good group can make it out. Let me know if you have any questions about it. Also let me know if you plan on attending, just so I can keep track of how many people to expect.

Greetings to my R1 friends on and around Cape Cod! I’ve seen two or three of the same R1s locally in the past six months, but usually the ones I see are out of state plates or give some indication that they were visiting. Anyone here from the Cape?

Failed VT State Inspection at 1 year/20k miles. The inner face of the right rear brake rotor is rusty, which is a reason to fail vehicle inspection. The inspection was done at VT Tire and Service in Montpelier. Chelsea Service Center has me slotted in this week, but suggests this is not a warranty issue. They are recommending replacing brakes and rotors all around. My service contact said this has been a problem especially for Rivians in northern New England. Wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

My wife’s Taycan clears away rust with each new driving shutting off regen breaking for the first few hundred yards. Simple fix for Rivian that I’ve posted about here and elsewhere.

Talking with a service rep in VT, he noted that he's replaced a few sets of brakes at 20k miles, primarily due to rear outboard pad wear while there is a lot of life on the inboard pad. Apparently the rear calipers aren't particularly lubricated and seem to stick. This could also manifest as inboard rotor surface rust you noted.
I will pull mine apart, grease them up and note any uneven wear.

Any shot someone could post a YouTube video showing your technique? (I fear using grease near brakes.)
Actually this type of tip“should” be endorsed by Rivian for those of us in salty road country.

Susan and I went into Montpelier last night for dinner at Hugo's. We were excited to be the third Rivian to park within sight of each other. Ours is the dark one. The third one is behind mine across the street. I still get stupid excited when I see another Rivian on the road.

What’s everyone’s plan for the eclipse? We are heading up Northern Kingdom to a friend’s land and camping out the night before.

Maine Dept Inland Fisheries and Wildlife sent me a warning message with all the dont’s and none of the dos. I was impressed and disappointed at the same time.

Feels like we have enough members now to start a conversation about New England events and concerns.

I think there should be some simple rules for this group.
  • Issues general to EVs and Rivian vehicles should be posted elsewhere but issues with Chelsea SC are fair game.
  • Issues with charging and EVSE operators are not needed here but I think we should feel free to discuss EVSE throughout New England (especially issues related to reaching far-flung parks in the middle of EVSE deserts, like northern Maine and New Hampshire, or alerting each other new stations, outages, or improvements).
  • Above all else, meet-ups and events in New England are the prime topics for this group
  • Rivian sponsored events in New England are also reasonable here.
I am open to your thoughts.

Just found this group today, so sorry if this is old news to some but a service center will be opening in Canton, MA and the Chelsea location will remain from what I read. At least the new location will not require the same hassles as getting to Chelsea, but no date on opening yet. This was discussed on the Rivian Owners of New England FB group.

I had some basic service done to my R1T the other day. The Rivian technician was a great guy. He and I chatted for a while.

He told me that Rivian was caught off guard by New England demand for Rivians. He said the only reason the service center was built in Chelsea at all was because the company thought it would be servicing Amazon vans. He said the lack of charging network and the odd location of the service center with its small lot, and the lack of showrooms are the result of Rivian’s errant analysis of New England.

Crazy, if you ask me.

Absolutely agree, and honestly they probably should have known by reservation data. Nevermind the fact they've had two years to react and we still are seeing them adapt by opening a CT service center and basically no RANs? Last time I was in Chelsea most of the plates were New Hampshire and Maine plates, leading me to think they'd do quite well to have a southern New Hampshire location with cheaper (larger) real estate to service anything north of Boston, and anyone who doesn't want to deal with getting into Chelsea from the 93 corridor.

I'm up in rural Maine and so driving anywhere near Boston is stressful at best. Driving my new R1S out of the Chelsea SC and trying to get used to the one pedal driving, navigation, narrow one-ways and onto i95 took several years off my life! Trial by fire though right. Just not looking forward to going back down for future appointments.

I was lucky to get home delivery, that certainly would have been a stressful first drive!
