After traveling across this great state, it truly would be nice to have actual Rivian chargers in Southeast Michigan. I am truly surprised there are none east of Lansing. Ann Arbor, Northville/Novi, Royal Oak, and Dearborn are all great areas for Rivian chargers.

A new Tesla charger went active today in Brighton. I'm 5 miles from it.

I'd love some in Port Huron right before the bridge to Canada. Help people loop the Thumb and make it up to fun spots in Ontario. The Tesla ones there are too old for adapter use.
(But I recognize that won't happen)

Northern Michigan has no Tesla charger access... they're all old. Rivian is the lifeblood for northern Lower.

Detroit Auto Show - R3x was a no show - a Gen2 R1S, the R2 (roped off) and the Delivery Van (also roped off). Opportunities to drive EVs including Rivians, Hummers, Silverados, Cadillac, BMW. On another track was the Lightning and ID Buzz.

Hey all. How many of you form the MI area would be interested in our 2025 Silver Lake Sand Dunes trip in your backyard this year? We did it as a group for Buckeye State Rivian Club last year and it was a blast:

This year, we've got people from Chicago, Wisconsin, and Tennessee organizing to join us.

Chime in on what dates work the best - mention all the ones that do work for you.
Fri-sun / June 25-29
Fri-sun / July 11-13
Fri-Sun / July 18-20

I'm thinking about possibly heading to Silver Lake this weekend on either Sat or Sun. Would be fun to get a full posse of Rivians out there.

OFF-ROAD ADVENTURE BULLETIN:

People are meeting at the Grayling RAN charger this Sunday, September 29, 12pm-1pm, to do some LIGHT off-roading in the surrounding areas. Never done off-roading? NOT A PROBLEM. You will be with others who have appropriate recovery supplies. We are just looking to do some fun driving, exploring the beautiful landscapes of Michigan in the most prime weather. Message me for contact info. Last chance of the season!

Hey, Michigander here, '22/22" R1S

I've taken some interest in off-roading. I am not an expert, but I do have the Rivian official recovery kit, as well as a full-size spare and 4 recovery boards. My only real experience yet so far was at Holly Oaks ORV park. BTW for any beginners looking for more information, this site is most helpful: https://www.michigan.gov/dnr/things-to-do/orv-riding

If there is enough interest, maybe we could plan an ORV route trip. If you visit the State's interactive map, go to the legend and just filter out everything except for ORV routes, you'll find there are a decent amount around Grayling, where there is a RAN station. https://midnr.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=1710727ba3ec4c64928110fdb4f7799d

There are campgrounds around there but also a Day's Inn by the RAN station for the less camping-inclined. Personally, I would only be available on a Sunday for this, but we could meet at the RAN or something around 10-11am. July 28, August 4, or August 11 are some dates far enough out, if there is enough interest for one of those times, we could try it. I haven't done these routes, so I make no promises as to the experience and most definitely accept no responsibility or liability LOL. If at least two other vehicles are down for it though, I say: let's keep Michigan adventurous!

Please reply with thoughts, interest, and preferably preferable dates. I'm copying this post to the forum because I think people often overlook this "clubs" page.

@Jonger1150 Just finishing installation of a 50A on our cottage just off SLSD. Nice to have one as the nearest ChargePoint in Hart is a bit far for the 20-30A it is sharing between two stations.

Did you have to put ORV stickers on your Rivian? Also, are there some beginner trails that would accommodate 22" tires?
Newtonrj
Newtonrj
@stanseling If you are asking about beginner trails near SLSD, there are many. Most people don't want sandy single-track. There are some beginner trails right out of SL area. There is also a state forest north of SLSD that is some of the best tunnel tree south of Petoskey. Also, east of US-31 there are plenty of gravel and two-track.

One of my favorite trails starts at 14th Ave @ Termite bridge heading south then take right @T to go to Stoney Church Rd or take left @ T to go to Wood Rd. That Wood Rd is 17-degrees of incline at the lip of the hill so take it easy climbing. Again, all beginner for near-to-SLSD but well travelled by dune crowd.

From: https://www.michigan.gov/dnr/faqs/motorized-recreation/street-licensed-orvs
My truck has a street license plate. Do I need an ORV license and trail permit to ride on designated ORV routes?

No. Neither an ORV license nor a trail permit is required to drive a street-licensed truck on designated ORV routes. If, however, the route is not passable by a conventional two-wheel-drive passenger automobile designed for highway use, then the vehicle is being used as an ORV and requires both an ORV license and a trail permit.

I personally have an ORV sticker because that is needed for ORV parks like Holly Oaks regardless. For these ORV routes up around Grayling, many seem to be >12' wide according to the map. So probably plenty of opportunities for 22" and beginner level stuff. Some of these trails might be more rally-like than rock-crawl, I don't know.
Does anyone know if there's much off-roading in the general vicinity of Ann Arbor that's 21' friendly? I'll be road-tripping up there this summer and would love to hit some of the trails in the area, but I'm wondering how much I'll be missing out on if I'm running 21's.

Holly Oaks up by Holly is a dedicated off road area. You Tuber Sandy Monroe took his R1T with 21s there and did some of the trails. I have not been there, but I believe a Michigan ORV permit is needed (permanently attached to the metal of your truck). Hopefully another member will have some info on this. I am in Ann Arbor.

I tested my Lectron Vortex adapter yesterday and it worked great up until I had to disconnect. Had hard time disconnecting it. I finally got it off but am not sure what I did different. I followed the instructions and removed the supercharger connection prior to removing the adapter.

My adapter is currently stuck on the Tesla supercharger handle...?

Does anyone have a Tesla Super Charger Adapter that they would be willing to rent or loan June 5-10? I have a roadtrip planned and Lectron seems to be backed up with orders.

There is a RAN in Mackinaw City that should get you to Munising, but there is only a level 2 charger there. The nearest level 3 is in Marquette. I use a better route planner (abetterrouteplanner.com and) plugshare.com for trips. Plugshare will give a user reviews of charging stations

Yup, been to Munising from Bay City a couple times now. Really no issues as long as you plan. Also did a trip from Houghton and back to Munising without issue.

They opened up on Jan 8th and they're still working on getting fully staffed. Guest area isn't that big, seating for less than 10 people. There is a break room for the employees that's open to guests, a small conference room, mens/womens bathrooms, and a lactation room (quite large).

Happy Holidays to all!
Hey Fellow Michiganster Rivian Owners! I live in the Lansing Area and picked up my R1S on 6/30. Do any of you have 22" Rims? I'm dealing with a bit of wander (car slightly wanders back and forth on its own with the wheel straight) on highways, especially on newer concrete highways with rain grooves (like 127 South for about 10 miles before you hit Jackson) and want to see if any of you have also experienced that.

The grooved highways are the worst. I get the drift on every vehicle I have driven on them. The Rivian seems to be doing the best of them, but I hate driving on those sections of road.
stanseling

Yes this happens on groove highways, but became less pronounced over time. Got my RC R1S 5/31 and have 6,700 miles

Has anyone noticed the seat coolers don’t work well if air is also on higher?
Show full message
SSteveEV
SSteveEV
I think it has more to do with the mix of vents that are open in my experience but I'll do some tests on my way to work this morning :)
timf
The seat coolers are dependent on the temperature in the cabin. They don't generate cool air on their own, but rather move existing air around. When the air is on high, it is likely because the cabin is hot and it's trying to cool it down quickly, so the seat coolers just blow the warm cabin air through the seats with minimal effect. Once the cabin is down to temperature, the seat cooling effect becomes much more noticeable.
Cambree

Also make sure the rear floor vents are on. That will also make a difference.

That's hopeful for other locations at least. I figured they would scrub the magic doc program now that they are making adapters next year. Still bummed I missed both of those as t Labor Day, nearly got booted staying overnight in the ferry day use lot.
timf
@SSteveEV I'd rather see the magic dock at every Supercharger than have to carry around an adapter I rarely use. Perhaps this is all they mean by making adapters available - that all Superchargers will be retrofit by the end of 2024.
SSteveEV
SSteveEV
@timf I'd be really happy with that too but given that they did it company by company with secret contracts I don't think that's the plan or they would never have had to limit it by company

? **Rivian 21-Inch Tire Swap Opportunity!** ?

Calling all fellow Rivian owners,

I've got a set of practically new 21-inch tires that have only seen 1000 miles, and I'm looking to swap them for either 22-inch or 20-inch tires. Unfortunately, the 21-inch size wasn't what I initially had in mind during my Rivian's delivery and was not a great help from my guide.

If you're in the opposite situation and have been hoping to switch to 21-inch tires, let's chat! I'd love to discuss the possibility of a tire swap that benefits both of us.

Don't hesitate to get in touch if you're interested or have any questions. Let's keep our Rivians riding in style! ?️? #RivianTireSwap #[Banned Site] #TireUpgrade

Sorry but I'm happy with my 20s. What we may all need on the near future is a set of 21s to share for service visits to have them program as 21s so our speedometer is correct when we swap to non scorpion/OEM 20" tires.

Good luck with your swap!
