Just did a 292 mile road trip in my max pack R1S dual motor performance 21” wheels from Atlanta to Blowing Rock, NC. It was 44° when I left, 393 miles of range, and blue skies. Installed a Thule Force XT XL cargo carrier. It fits well with no issues with the liftgate. I Mapped it to stop 150 away in Greenville to use the RAN. I arrived with 180 miles of range. The charger was flawless and there were numerous food options. I was the only Rivian there and got a few looks. I added 173 miles in 47 minutes. 64.8kwh cost $23.34. Peaked at 168kwh speed. Range went up to 353 miles. Outside temp was 42°. Battery temp was 97°. Battery started preconditioning about 15 minutes before I arrived.
Blowing Rock was 142 miles away. Nav said I’d get to Blowing Rock with 112 miles left. Temp dropped to 23° and elevation climbed to 3500ft. There was wind and snow the last 10 minutes. Got there with 109 miles left. Unloaded the Rivian and drove 1.5 miles to the RAN in Blowing Rock. 5/6 were working. Added 149 miles in 26 minutes. 56.4kwh cost $20.32. Peaked at 198kwh speed. Battery temp 68°.(no preconditioning) It was 20° and snowing. Did a few donuts in the parking lot. Overall, great experience. The temp, cargo carrier, and elevation definitely affected the range significantly. My efficiency was 1.92.
