1) From the charging screen on the main console select "stop charging. " Then simply go back to the charge port and disconnect the charging chord from the vehicle.

Try locking and unlocking the truck or telling the truck to stop charging from the screen. It might work. The truck is what latches the charger in place.

I had a hard time unplugging from an EA charger on a test run last week. I think the port is really tight and there’s some locking/unlocking that happens with the proximity key. I finally wiggled it out, but it took more effort than with my Ioniq 5.

Sandy and Rivian are right to reduce costs. As originally built, it should have retailed for over $120K. They can‘t sell 150,000 trucks a year at that price and that’s what their factory is set up for.

The goal is to reduce costs WITHOUT reducing quality. Streamline manufacturing, build it better, waste less. All of those things go towards a more profitable experience without lowering the quality of the truck. Now I agree that some of the changes aren't a big deal and if they save money it's worth it but there isn't too much left to take away without lowering the overall quality of the truck. These little things add up, and even at 100K that's a pretty pricey vehicle.

Get a German or Japanese car for that price point and all these little things ARE built in. They understand that 6 figure vehicle buyers expect a 6 figure quality vehicle.

Well, magnets on rarely opened frunk covers is an easy place to save money.

But the rest - the entire vehicle industry to struggling with making EVs cost competitive with ICE. It is very, very difficult. People deride Tesla for minimalist interiors, but that's one way Tesla gets costs down to industry leading levels. So if Rivian wants to keep luxury feel, they may end up pricing themselves out of a mass market. Time will tell, none of us knows if it's possible for Rivian to not cut luxury finishes without raising prices again.

The sad reality is that batteries are still freaking expensive.

No you’re right batteries are expensive. The thing is, if they want mass market appeal they need to keep that quality. The people who are willing to sacrifice for an environmental or virtue signaling reason have already done so.

People like myself, who are the traditional consumers of luxury vehicles, aren’t going to buy an EV if it is a far cry from someone’s ICE luxury car. The environment isn’t the reason I got the Rivian it’s because the R1T is the best vehicle on the market for my needs. Only an EV can still two the load capacity, handle like a decent sport sedan and have the acceleration of a super car.

However if the interior was shit and it didn’t function like my Audi I would keep going with ICE as I’m not willing to sacrifice the creature comforts I’ve come to expect. I would say I’m probably close to the mainstream buyer at this price point. If the car gets cheapened up too much people like myself won’t buy it.

That’s why this is my first EV, it was the first mainstream one with capability and enough luxury.
