I just had mobile service come out because my gear tunnel doors weren't opening properly. It required adjusting the panels and installing a new damper so that when I'd press the unlatch button, I could actually get my finger in there to open the door.
That all said, the mobile tech pointed out how my driver's side door panel is showing signs of a crease up near the top. He saw how I closed the door (which was to slam it shut because it always required some force with my hand top-center). He said not to do that, as it will bend the door panels, and he's seen it on a lot of customer trucks.
So the PSA here is that if you want to maintain the proper shape of your gear tunnel doors, you want to press gently at the top-forward corner of the door, and apply consistent pressure until you hear two clicks. Slamming the doors is not advised. I wish I had known this earlier.
