I reached out to a member of Rivian’s communication team to see if they were going to provide live streaming from Friday’s Atlanta event. No reply yet, But hey - we have the technology, right? Is anyone attending who’d volunteer to go live on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc. for RJ’s address to the audience. Likewise if you come upon an interesting exchange with one of the engineers, go live then too. Seems like a great way to share info with those of us who can’t make it. Eager to hear what Rivian folks say about the South American R1Ts, Cox Automotive, upcoming test drive program, etc ...

Not Atlanta - but hello Fully Charged! Coming to Austin in February 2020. And look what Robert has his hand on. Excellent.

Thanks @SpinDoc7 ! This looks like an awesome event with many EVs, and even test drives. And it's in my backyard!

Both Robert and Jonny are a hoot - I’ve watched many of their videos on YouTube. After closer review I think the image with Robert and the R1T is a photoshop collage but still, yes - looks like a worthwhile event to consider attending for Rivian fans.

I bought tickets & will be there. I'm wondering if we will be able to drive any of the vehicles on the race track...that would be incredible!

Great event! My better half and I enjoyed the evening. Got to meet RJ. Had time for one quick question... “How is the plant build out going and will your team be able to hit the late 2020 delivery target?”

He said it’s going well..many challenges but going good. He asked what I’d ordered and when ( 135kwh R1T pre-ordered 12/21). Said to realistically expect Q1 ‘21 delivery.

Spending rest of weekend in ATL with family but I’ll send out additional notes later.

Oh yeah, I also asked multiple reps about the trucks in Argentina. You could tell they we’re caught off guard a couple of weeks ago and hadn’t planned on that going lublic.

I think the “big news” of the night was RJ introducing a promo video (too large to upload here) of the two trucks in Argentina. He even laughed about having to pull something together quickly.

I asked a number of folks how many R1T prototypes were “in the wild”. I got different answers. General, consensus was 7-10 prototypes dressed up like F150s and 3 with R1T bodies. However, a couple of others said there were also some at “other testing grounds”. Who knows.

A few more things quickly:

When speaking with RJ he said the configuration I ordered (135kwh R1T with road tires) would have a range of 325-327 miles. He said that was his preferred combination.

Service - it will be nontraditional and probably hub and spoke, but white glove. All reps said their customers will expect a great service experience and they plan on providing it. Will NOT use Ford service centers. They want to control their brand and won’t outsource that. I live in Knoxville and asked how they’d service my vehicle. If they didn’t have a center in Knoxville, they’d diagnose remotely, trailer demo vehicle to me (if needed or tech would repair on site) and trailer my vehicle to a Rivian service center. Still working out details.

Parts availability - nobody could tell me the plan.

Configurator / Pricing - Said that should be going live in late Q1 ‘20 or early Q2. They said we’d definitely get tot test drive before final order confirmation. May have to travel to test drive but they’ll try to bring the vehicle as close as possible (i.e won’t have to make a trip to Normal, IL)

Asked a brand manager the best and most challenging things about working for Rivian (she was employee 163 out of ~1,000). People are the best! Loves her co-workers and believes they’re doing great things. Most challenging is the growth. She’s seen a lot in the past two years. Crazy growth and things are coming fast.

I’ll post more as I remember

Oh yeah, also got a cup and some pins.

Great info and thanks. Did RJ say much during his presentation about the design differences between the show model R1T and the development/testing models we’ve seen in Argentina?

You merely preordered the R1T, correct? No one up to this point has specifically been able to configure anything. No selection of battery, tires, or color. Just looking for verification. There will be people who will read this and go, "Wait! Why haven't I been able to at least pick my battery size, color, and preferred tires?" You have just decided what you will be configuring once the "Configurator" goes live.

Thanks.

You’re correct. I was merely telling him what I planned to order. Good call out. Sorry for any confusion.

No, he didn’t say anything about the differences.

I also asked two different reps about what “options” are on the R1T prototype at the event (and widely seen online). In other words, is this a base model or blinged out with options?

One rep said the only option on this model was the electronic tailgate (and the crossbars are an accessory). Another rep, said this was a “premium” build but couldn’t call out any specific options. He said most of the options/upgrades would be software related. I guess we’ll learn more in time.
