I was terrified of how bad the efficient would be but she did great. I should have taken this picture before getting off the highway but the average w:as over 70, setting cruise to 78-80. Temps in the high 30s to low 40s. Conserve mode with auto height. 1.75mi/kw was pretty easily sustainable. I was worried my range would be ~150 miles but it's around 225 with a relatively short and aerodynamic bike in back. I imagine I can get near the same if I pull the windscreen off my adv bike. So today was a good day!

Edit:21s and almost no HVAC on during the drive (didn't need it).

Which tires are you running?

My results were much worse (1.83 to 1.65) in Sept when hauling my dual sport and 790 (no windscreen) from the bay area to Idaho and back.

Love to see this thread! Any opinion on if a KLR 650 and a KTM Adv 890 would both fit together? Seems optimistic...

Also, assume just using a portable ramp to load?

Wow you guys are daring! I only use my trailer cause I'm terrified of dropping the bike as I load in the bed. Two bikes in the back!! Technically I can then pull a total of 5 bikes total with my trailer and bed combined!
Is it possible to hook up the trailer with the tailgate down you think?

I wills hope the trailer lights can connect with the bed down. If you’re using a Kendon or other trailer with the tailgate down you may need a hitch extension since the tailgate is so long.

Thanks for posting. My Desert X wheelbase is a bit long at 63.3 inches. Looking at the rear wheels pretty close to the edge of the tailgate in these pics has me a bit worried. What is your wheelbase and do you think 63.3 inches is fine?

21s. Those look a bit taller than this bike and with 2x of them that makes sense. I saw one guy get 1.35 a while ago so I was pleasantly surprised.

Ammmaaazing. I have the KLR and my riding buddy is waiting on his new KTM, so I forsee some adventures in the future. Preference is obviously to ride away from home, but a winter trip from BC is more likely now if we can jet somewhere warmer first :)

There’s plenty of room, I even can fit my GSA in the back don’t worry about your desert X

Overall length of bed is 84" and it looks like my Africa Twin (62" wheelbase) would fit (haven't tried it). A portion of the rear tire would be out past the end of the tailgate but it would be firmly resting inside the 84". I think you'd probably be close but okay unless you used some large chock setup that pushed you back much more.

Yikes, that's a long bike!

MY GSA and previous 990 were about 88" total length and they fit.

Both these dirt bikes are about 84" long

If you try it, let me know! If you have 2-3 inches to spare, I should be good.
