I love Rivian, but I'll take the truck I like the most regardless of brand. Hummer has some cool features, but with that price Rivian still wins for me hands down. Plus I'm hesitant to trust GMC. Reliability is huge for me.
I currently own 3 GM vehicles and reliability has been great, and 2 of those vehicles are 12 years old. I am also on my second GM electric car, I just crossed 80K miles and have had no issues with it. With Rivian, there is no track record for reliability, so I that remains a question mark.

Sure, I agree Rivian is an unknown, and we won't know for a while. They seem to be committed to build quality though. And I'm sure your GM cars are great. But if you look at data collected nationally, they aren't great overall reliability wise. My Tacoma has 216k miles, and I've spent about $1000 total on repairs since I got it at 140k miles.

No chance. RJ won’t lower prices and then raise again. Not in his character.
I think there's enough unknowns in pricing so far for Rivian to pad their margins if they wanted to without raising too much of a ruckus. What do we know so far? Only that the price listed on the website ($69k for an R1T, $72k for the R1S) is for a "well optioned" 135kwh model with a few named features like the moon roof and what not. They've made no promises on what the 180kwh option will cost, so could theoretically pump that number up. They could also increase the incremental cost of other options like premium sound, autonomous driving levels etc (or no longer worry about reducing those costs, if that was being discussed). All without going back on their word.

Understand with what you are saying and I agree. I was just stating that he has stated a price at 69k for the mid level with options like the eecrtchromic roof. So it’s not a bare bones option and mid level at 69. Since he has stated this, don’t believe he would raise it.

I hear you, and yes I do hope this Hummer reveal doesn't give them any bright ideas :whew:. Honestly there's a ton of stuff on the lower end of the market that they should worry about, at least for the R1S like the VW ID4 and the Mach E. I'm in for the mid range R1S myself and hope it comes with enough stuff to where I won't feel like adding on options.

GM will come out with other electric trucks, which will likely be lower end and fit more into the Silverado & F-150 category.
Exactly the point a lot of people on the internet today seem to be missing. They've been pretty clear, this is a "halo" truck. They've also said an electric Chevy is coming that will be more "bare bones."

The Hummer should be compared to the Raptor and TRX, not the Rivian and F-150 EV. And frankly, probably not they Cybertruck either. Musk has openly said they didn't actually study how to do truck things (like, you know, be able to reach over the bed sides or not look like a door stop) and you can tell the CT was designed to beat the marketing specs from other manufacturers (power, towing) with little regard for actual truck prowess, especially offroad.

I was nervous about the Hummer, but I think they hit the nail on the head. Hopefully we'll see the (hopefully) more affordable and daily usable Chevy sibling pretty soon.

I thought the Hummer looked bland. If they were going to keep the "traditional" truck look, I wish they would've sharpened up the lines. Kind of like my old military Humvee. And then when the price was revealed, no thanks. Not even in the ballpark.

I don't mind the look so much, it's the price and not being available in Alaska.

The GM Cadillac Lyric is also on the way, and will compete in the SUV space.

I put down $100, but could not order the Edition 1, only the V3. So that puts it out in 2022-2023. I think it is good to have a backup plan, it is not that I think I will actually get the Hummer.

My impression is that the Hummer is targeted as more of an off-road beast than Rivian. A slightly different target audience. I am not saying Rivian is not off-road capable, just that the Hummer fits more into the lifted truck/rock crawler category.

GM will come out with other electric trucks, which will likely be lower end and fit more into the Silverado & F-150 category.

I really hope this pushes Rivian to come out with final actual pricing, I also expect the top end price to be in the $90k-100K range.
Hummer looks cool!

I think these are competing vehicles honestly......price, features, preference of styling and use will certainly come into the discussion but they're for the same customer. I will cross shop them. Both H-EV and Rivian have a bed and will haul some dirt bikes, after that the one with most range/per-price is the biggest decider to me.

Here's a good video from an apparently well connected kid. Shows the Hummer moving under its own power (in a parking lot).

Here’s Doug DeMuro’s review of a prototype Hummer EV - it doesn’t even run, but he needs a cold shower after reviewing it:

I didn't finish watching the video earlier, but I saw lots of tweets about it

got to see the Hummer today at Barrett Jackson in Scottsdale, the new Bronco was also there. No Rivian booth. Tesla had a booth but no Cybertruck.

What vehicles did Tesla had there? The Roadster or Semi? Not sure what other new vehicle they are coming out with...
That Bronco looks great!
