Took delivery last week, wanted to give some thoughts, but also ask about some potential issues I am having to see if others have had similar/good luck fixing them. This is my fouth EV (2 teslas, and a VW ID4 so I have lived that CCS life for a while now).

For reference: Ocean Coast, 21s with aero covers on.

Good:
  1. Mostly great build quality [a couple of small things to address - much better than my previous vehicle, a 2022 Model S]

  2. Love the interior, the Meridian sound system, the styling/detail. Impressive!

  3. Damn this thing looks good. It's a turn back and look at it in the parking lot type vehicle for sure.

  4. This is my fourth EV, so the smooth acceleration and torque don't get to me anymore, but obviously it's great to show friends/family.

  5. I love that it has true one pedal driving and auto hold mode.

  6. First truck I've ever owned and I enjoy the ride height and visibility on the road.

  7. Auto high beams actually work!

  8. It has real blind spot monitoring sensors on the side view mirrors.

  9. It has rear cross traffic alert and it works very well.

  10. The range is as advertised, two huge thumbs up! (put 300 miles on it, getting around 2.6 mi to kWh - driving a ton at highway speeds over 75 with the AC blasting).

  11. Love the 360 camera, makes it so much easier to park.

  12. Love the turning radius, as good, if not better than my Model S.

  13. The software is better than expected. It has a bit to go to catch up some basic things, but at least everything is responsive.

The Not-so-Good/Some questions for other owners:
  1. I think my front right suspension slightly sags in some (most?) cases. It seems to be off .5 - 1.0 inch... is this a known or common issue? Maybe I'm crazy.

  2. My suspension already makes the tocking noises at low speeds, not thrilled with that, but sounds like no permanent fix yet reading about it on here. My understanding is that it's an annoying sound but not a safety problem.

  3. My front hood has some buffeting going on at highway speeds. Should be an easy fix and there is already a customer satisfaction campaign, but I am shocked they delivered a vehicle with a known issue that has a fix from 6 months ago.

  4. It pulls ever so slightly to the right, perhaps has something to do with the front suspension causing a slight imbalance?

  5. At 75-80 mph, the steering wheel shakes a little. not crazy, but more than I think it should. Is this normal/expected/common?

  6. You do feel a lot of the road through the seats/steering wheel, more than I expected but the tires are pretty large and it is a heavy truck.

  7. The AC is pretty weak and very loud. I plan on tinting the windows/roof before next summer and that will help.

  8. Be careful around the gear tunnel doors. Already cut into my leg once. They are extremely sharp. Like knife sharp on certain edges.

EDIT: updating this thread after a long drive today, which is the end of my 7 day trial period. I do think the suspension issues/pulling of the wheel are getting quite a bit worse and pretty quickly. Noises are louder, the suspension seems to be less stable on the front passenger side and the pulling is a bit stronger, certainly much more so than day 1 and I'd argue after a 100-150 miles worth of driving today, primarily in conserve mode with no launches or anything, it is either just much more noticeable or has worsened with additional use.

I am also a Tesla model S owner and soon to be first time truck owner so I appreciate your perspective. We just picked one of the trucks from the Rivian shop so hopefully will get it in a few weeks. Enjoy your new ride.

Congrats on the new truck!! Sounds great.

As to the issues.......

#1- Somewhat common.. issue with right front height sensor.. repairable... report it.
#2- Repairable at SC with application of grease to half-shaft splines.
#3- Somewhat common lately... repairable.. report it.
#4- Somewhat common... alignment off from the factory... repairable.. report it.
#5- Somewhat common... repairable.. report it.

That's all I got... sorry.

As I prior BEV owner it's great to hear your perspective.

I agree that the vehicles are a great deal, especially the Launch Editions.

It's hard to believe that a Dual Motor Model Y is approaching $70k. The R1T is such a better value.

On #5, does it transition to friction brakes below a certain speed or does it just regen brake to a stop? My model S gives up on regen around 10mph where my Mach-E would switch to friction brakes to bring me to a complete stop for true one pedal driving.

A curiosity on #4. I noticed that in All Purpose and low setting the pull goes away and returns at Standard and even worse at High. What would cause the height of the vehicle to make it worse?
If the right side of the vehicle is riding lower then maybe aerodynamics are pulling it to the right? Regen always pulls vehicle straight.

It pulls to the right in a way I've never had another vehicle pull before. It's so slight. If there was a misalignment it would be more noticable. I agree it seems like different suspension settings change the pull but I'm not sure that the sag doesn't literally come and go while in the middle of driving.

Our AC works extremely well. My guess is you either didn't have it on the max settings, or there is an issue. I believe a couple of people have needed their AC recharged post delivery.

How old is your Model S? It regens the same as all new Tesla models without friction brakes to slow down.

I have a 15 85D and a 17 P100D on full regen mode, both give up regen around 10mph and coast to a stop. I wouldn't call it true one pedal drive like the Mach-E, though one pedal can be used most of the time.

Oh yeah it feels completely different than those Teslas. More like the Mach E but it's been a while since I drove a mach e so I can't remember exactly how it worked. But I do know it feels very similar to that sensation.

Sweet, that was one of few things I loved about my Mach-E.

for those of you with "minor" issues, my recommendation is to submit them to service. even if you plan not to get it fixed because it doesnt bother you, we should still submit them to Rivian so they are aware of issues and can address fix common problems.
